IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANYONE TRAVELING WITHIN THE U.S. OR GOING ABROAD
First — the Real ID requirement will officially take effect on May 7, 2025. Noncompliant driver’s licenses will no longer be sufficient to board commercial flights. If you’re currently relying on your license for identification, it’s essential to either obtain a new, compliant license or have another acceptable form of ID available, such as a passport.
Second — in November of this year (tentatively either November 10 or 17, 2024), the European Union will implement the EU Entry/Exit (EU EE) system. This system will replace manual passport checks with fingerprint and facial recognition technology in most EU countries. While this system is designed to save time in the long run by storing your biometric information for three years, the initial registration process could take two to three minutes. Consequently, during the first few months, we anticipate longer queues as first-time registrants complete the registration process. More details can be found at https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees_en
Third — for those traveling to Europe, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) program is expected to become operational in early 2025. ETIAS will require travelers who do not need a visa to pre-register through the ETIAS system before traveling to EU countries. Although the implementation of ETIAS has been delayed several times, we now anticipate it will go live in the Spring of 2025. Once approved through the ETIAS system, your authorization to visit countries within the Schengen Region of the EU will remain valid for three years. However—and this is critical—if you obtain a new passport before the three-year period ends, you will need to apply again.
