The pygmy s***m whale (Kogia breviceps) has a unique exocrine gland near its false gill slit! 🐋 Its secretion—a mix of carbs, proteins, lipids & uric acid (rare in mammals!)—may serve in chemical communication, likely sensed via taste.

Gray Whales Count (GWC) is seeking Research Assistants (RAs) to assist in the annual survey, conducted from shore at the Coal Oil Point Reserve, Goleta, California, adjacent to the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
