Squid run at La Jolla Shores this morning! While conditions were initially not promising, I chose to venture out to the deep to check on our ongoing squid run. While it’s on the downswing as of yet, there’s still plenty of wonders to behold. #underwaterlife #squid

This is the Tule Boat Launch conducted on Walter Munk Day last weekend. Kumeyaay tribal leaders led local students in creating two of these traditionally designed vessels to cross leopard-shark crowded waters. Over the course of less than a day, bundles of tule reeds were bound together to create crafts capable of holding three people apiece! These vessels were known to traverse miles of the Pacific, even as far as the Channel Islands. Seeing these ancient vessels launch and navigate was a transcedent experience, only slightly jarred by their juxtaposition with modern plastic kayaks. #kumeyaay #waltermunk #waltermunkfoundation #oceans #lajollasandiego
