Xmas Trip 2023 in the books. We always have some sort of Christmas miracle and this year was the last 2 days of awesome bft fishing with a couple over 200 #. The trip started slow with smaller yft, some yt and misc fish. We made moves and Conor made it happen. The guys (Conor, Zeke, Ash, Andrew & Todd Grant and Daniel in the galley) worked hard to find and keep the fish at the boat. Thank you to our awesome CM Doug ! The sh**un returned this morning from a two day trip with a very limited load of 15 passengers. They had 22 bft up to 80 # and 21 yellowtail. They leave today on a 3-day. Wish them luck and biting fish!!

The sh**un left on yesterday on an open party 2-day with a very limited load of only 15 passengers. Last night they had 22 bluefin, 40 to 80 # and they still have today and tonight to fish before heading back to the dock tomorrow morning. We have some openings on some upcoming trips and now that the bite is on, these trips will sell out fast, so book your spot now.

Sh**un Sportfishing is hiring a full time cook for the 2023 season (san diego)

2023 Season is from April to December.

Job duties include:
-Chef/Cooking/Culinary experience (references/menus and food photos required).
-Must be ok with being gone from 3 – 18 days, possibly more at a time.
-Be able to prepare meals for a large number of passengers and crew (25-35 people).
-Keep a clean galley, wash dishes and keep area sanitary.
-Have proper personal hygiene.
-Be able to withstand all sea conditions and be able to cook in rough seas (at times) on a moving vessel.
-Be able to plan and prepare complete grocery orders with a set budget.
-Be clean and follow food handler’s guidelines.
-Have a valid Passport. We can help you get one if you don’t have one.
-Able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

-We offer great pay opportunities, bonuses and incentives, health insurance and 401k.
-While on the boat, rooming and meals are included

LTH recap from Scott McPherson, 10/22-10/28, 2022:
We had a excellent trip with Conor running the boat. We got boat limits on yellowtail I’d say avg size 18 lbs with a bunch of 25 lbers. We got those running south avoiding the never ending wind machine. They bit everything from fly line dropper loop yo yo and surface iron. I got all of mine on jigs. After that we ran up the line and fished the small yft near Ensenada plus some bonus dorado for a few. We also made a few rock cod drifts. We all got what we wanted beautiful reds and some lings. My new favorite jig is a red rip roller that got mangled from bft earlier in the year. A big red every drop.
We then made a run to the bft area near sci. Everyone scored on a plunker bite. With bft up to 150 if I remember right.
This group of people on this trip is nothing short of spectacular. Pete Grey was the charter master and gave out a bunch of swag. This was my 3rd year with this group and everyone on the trip I consider a friend. I brought along a couple of friends new to this style of fishing and they did really well. It seemed that all the passengers helped them figure it out. This was a great trip.
The biggest challenge of this trip was the weather and swell. It seemed that we hardly had any smooth days. That outer water wind just kept us rolling and running from a beating. Conner and the crew did a excellent job keeping us safe and getting us on biting fish. The food was fantastic and the deckhands are all first class.
Tackle tips
30lb flyline for daytime tuna stood out
40-60lb for yellowtail fishing down the coast Tady 4/0 for yo yo and jri 4 for surface iron
100 lb for night time fishing the jigs.
