Have you taken this drive? I have to admit that I haven’t done it yet. I’m impressed how many guests say we are their last stop on their tour of the California coast.

A coastal drive from San Francisco to San Diego is known for its incredible Pacific views, charming beach towns, and famous landmarks. Here’s a suggested itinerary:
Day 1: San Francisco to Santa Cruz (Approx. 120 km / 1.5 hours)
Highlights: Begin your journey in San Francisco, and make sure to drive over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Once on Highway 1, you’ll pass dramatic ocean cliffs and beaches.
Stop: Half Moon Bay for lunch and coastal trails.
Destination: Santa Cruz, a laid-back beach town known for its surf culture and the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Day 2: Santa Cruz to Monterey & Carmel-by-the-Sea (Approx. 70 km / 1 hour)
Highlights: Enjoy the coastal views along Monterey Bay. Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and take a stroll down Cannery Row.
Stop: Pacific Grove for scenic oceanfront paths and wildlife spotting (sea otters, seals).

Day 3: Carmel to Big Sur (Approx. 40 km / 1 hour)

Stop: Bixby Creek Bridge for one of the most iconic photo ops along the California coast.

Day 4: Big Sur to San Luis Obispo (Approx. 190 km / 3 hours)
Highlights: Continue along the Pacific Coast Highway, passing through more stunning scenery and secluded beaches.
Stop: McWay Falls, a beautiful waterfall that spills directly into the ocean.
Destination: San Luis Obispo, a charming college town with historic missions, hot springs, and farm-to-table dining.
Day 5: San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara (Approx. 150 km / 2 hours)
Highlights: Head south through the rolling hills and vineyards of California’s Central Coast.
Stop: Pismo Beach for clam chowder and sand dunes or Solvang for a Danish-inspired village experience.
Destination: Santa Barbara, known as the "American Riviera" for its Mediterranean-style architecture, beaches, and the stunning Santa Ynez Mountains backdrop.
Day 6: Santa Barbara to Malibu & Santa Monica (Approx. 140 km / 1.5 hours)
Highlights: Drive past the luxurious homes of Malibu with ocean views the entire way.
