As early as February can be a great time for customized small group tours in the Mediterranean. Sunshine and rain. Great crisp photography through April. Flights cost less and broader choice of beautiful and interesting hotels. Minimum groups of 6, travel to where Moses grew up, where Joseph built the first pyramid over grain silos, Petra and Mount Nebo, the Split Rock of Moses, the snow capped mount Hermon, the shores of Galilee extended by recent rainy season but still 700 feet below sea level, the river Jordan, which means "flows from Dan", Jericho and Qumran and the mount of Temptation and Elijah's spring ND to the Dead Sea, lowest spot on earth. And that no where near the half of it. 7-10 days in Israel all inclusive for 2000 plus airfare. For 4900 dollars you can visit cities of Paul in Turkey and Greece, including Istanbul and Athens with in theater airfares included for up to 3 weeks, all inclusive. Great food, great accommodations, efficient planning, and my personal guidance all the way. Grab a few good friends or relatives and let me show you the Bible Lands like no one else can. Trips packed with off the beaten track specialities, and rich insights into the historical, geographical, and cultural understanding of these places both in the Bible period and up to the present. I've done it many times and it never gets old. Just text me your interest and I'll call and explain further. 760-500-4264.

The early history of America proves the Bible's impact. The Pony Express, a frontier mail service running from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California, required its agents to ride a grueling 50 miles per day on horseback. They saved weight any way they could. Saddles were small, the horses often wore no horseshoes, and Pony Express riders didn't carry weapons. The mail pouches were small and thin, but postage still cost $5.00 an ounce. And yet each of these riders carried a full-size Bible!

Bet you didn't learn that in your 4th grade California History Class.

Back to the Beginning, or at least my town's beginnings.

I was just there a few weeks back with a friend visiting us from Virginia. It's really quite a nice place and taken care of very well. The Black Smith shop is a "MAN ZONE" and guaranteed to intrigue any guy.

In the late 1920s, George M. Darrow of the USDA began tracking down reports of a large, reddish-purple berry that had been grown on the northern California farm of a man named Rudolph Boysen. Darrow enlisted the help of Walter Knott, a Southern California farmer who was known as a berry expert. Knott had never heard of the new berry, but he agreed to help Darrow in his search.

Darrow and Knott learned that Boysen had abandoned his growing experiments several years earlier and sold his farm. Undaunted by this news, Darrow and Knott headed out to Boysen's old farm, on which they found several frail vines surviving in a field choked with weeds. They transplanted the vines to Knott's farm in Buena Park, California, where he nurtured them back to fruit-bearing health. Walter Knott was the first to commercially cultivate the berry in southern California. He began selling the berries at his farm stand in 1932 and soon noticed that people kept returning to buy the large, tasty berries. When asked what they were called, Knott said, "Boysenberries," after their originator. His family's small restaurant and pie business eventually grew into Knott's Berry Farm. As the berry's popularity grew, Mrs. Knott began making preserves, which ultimately made Knott's Berry Farm famous.

California's Water: Facts on "California's Water System Water Supply Overview1
• Precipitation varies widely from year to year. In average years, close to 200 million acre-feet (MAF) of water falls in the form of rain or snow in California. One acre- foot is about 326,000 gallons, or enough water to supply two typical families for a year.
• Over half of that water soaks into the ground, evaporates or is used by native vegetation. That leaves somewhere around 82 million acre-feet of usable surface water in average years.
• Of that water:
o 48% goes to environmental uses such as instream flows, wild and scenic river
flows, required Delta outflow and managed wetlands.
o 41% is used by agriculture
o 9% is used by cities and industry.
o About 75% of California’s available water occurs north of Sacramento, while
about 80% of the demand occurs in the southern two-thirds of the state.
• Most of the rain and snowfall occurs between October and April, while demand is
highest during the hot and dry summer months.
• Groundwater provides about 40% of the state’s water supply. In dry years, that
percentage can go as high as 60%.
• California is prone to both droughts and floods. The most recent prolonged dry
spell was a six-year drought from 1987 to 1992. The most severe drought on record occurred in two consecutive years, 1976 and 1977, in which California received very little precipitation and surface water reservoirs were extremely low.
