This lovely couple pose in front of a brand new memorial in Star Park in Coronado. Called the "League of Wives" these women led an effort to get the country's attention on how their prisoner of war husbands were treated in Vietnam. The first public memorial to military spouses in the US, it is appropriately on display in Coronado as the league was formed here, led by the remarkable Sybil Stockdale.
This summer the Old Globe is completing Shakespeare's work by performing Henry 6, and have decorated their plaza to celebrate. And celebrate they should as they become the 11th theater company in the US to perform all of his works. This recent group on a Balboa Park tour got into the spirit posing next to the crown.
Sometimes we're lucky enough to have guests on more than one tour which allows us to carry stories over from one tour to the next. Enjoyed spending time with these two in both Balboa Park (with our fave Kate Sessions) and in Coronado (here in front of the Wizard of Oz house). Thanks for joining us!

Can't help but highlight one of our favorites on National Hotdog Day - . We recently visited helping out on a food tour from LA and just can't get enough of the delish dogs and amazing agua frescas. Their attention to detail, carefully chosen ingredients and lovely staff ensure a great experience. Find them in Barrio Logan, Petco Park (have to have a dog at a ball game, right?) and newly in San Antonio, TX.
The exterior of the San Diego Museum of Art is very detailed with more there than most people notice. Can you find the symbol of San Diego or California? Or name the five Spanish artists represented in two different ways? If nothing else it makes for a great background for this lovely couple who joined us on a beautiful day in Balboa Park!

These folks enjoyed a tour of Coronado and some spent time exploring the hotel when we were done. The Hotel del Coronado is undergoing a massive renovation to the Victorian Building and have cleverly covered the work with a giant screen decorated to look like balconies with furniture and railings. You can tell it is a screen if there is a breeze, otherwise it fools the casual observer. Genius!

In a place with so many beautiful spots in which to take a photo, this location at the Lily Pond is a top spot, and frequently crowded with people lined up to get their turn. Luckily when we had the place to ourselves on this beautiful morning. Thanks to this nice couple for joining us in Balboa Park!
Despite being from three different countries (USA, Canada & Germany), this group arrived color coordinated - both with each other and with the tile in Alcazar park! We love it when that happens! Neighbors to the east frequently escape the desert heat to enjoy our weather, and even May gray/June gloom feels pretty good to them. Loved showing these two around Old Town and hope they will be back for a visit again soon. Salud!

Guests from near and far, include some from neighboring counties, made for a delightful afternoon in Balboa Park. Here in front of the new walkway and native garden at the Natural History Museum. Be sure to check it out, along with their "Nat at Night" happening every Friday through the summer!
As a Navy town, it's not surprising to find the patriotic spirit all over Coronado. Thanks to these two for joining us on a tour where we learned about the history of the military on the island, and also saw some beautiful homes and gardens.

Located in Ingram Plaza, this flagpole was originally at the entrance to the Naval Training Station (later Center) when it was commissioned in 1923. The plaza is named after Osmond Ingram, the first American sailor to die in World War I when his ship was attacked by a German sub in 1917. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his attempt to save his ship and fellow sailors. Now known as Liberty Station, the Naval Training Center oversaw the basic or advanced training of over two million men and women over the course of seven decades. On several of our tours we'll find gopher holes, lots of them. Gophers can be very destructive critters who build extensive tunnels and can ruin a lawn or garden seemingly overnight. Rarely do we see them, however, until now! This little guy really wanted a specific leaf, and eventually got it.
