The Grand Princess will occasionally have a theme night scheduled. 80s night was the opportunity to hear some great 80s covers by The Sound, one of the main bands on board. The ship’s dancers also put on an excellent performance before opening up the pool deck as a dance floor. For those crazy enough, the party ended with a fully clothed jump into the pool led by the cruise director.

The Grand Princess’ sixth stop was to the island of Moorea in French Polynesia, Tahiti’s next door neighbor. Here you can partake in multiple adventurous activities like ATV or jet ski tours. I went on a three hour private jet ski tour with the Moorea Activities Center and my amazing tour guide Marine from France. The tour took me around almost the entire island and to three different swimming locations where I saw a turtle, dolphin, and multiple stingrays and sharks. Definitely a must do excursion on any trip to Moorea.

The Grand Princess’ fifth stop was to Papeete on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia. There we were welcomed by the locals with traditional music. On a stroll through the city you can see multiple cultural displays and artworks as well as the food and crafts market. If you are feeling adventurous there are plenty of opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling. I ended the day with a delicious meal of fresh fish and duck at the Meherio Tahitian Bistro and a cultural song and dance performance by a local troupe.

Occasionally throughout the voyage, the Grand Princess will convert their steakhouse into a pop-up restaurant called the Salty Dog Gastropub that serves pub style food for lunch. There is a small cover charge unless you have the Princess Plus or Premier packages, but it is well worth it. Pictured is the SDG Burger with truffle fries, the lobster mac and cheese, and the strawberries and cream dessert.

Sabatini’s is the Grand Princess’ amazing specialty Italian restaurant. There is a cover charge to dine here, or it is included up to two times over the length of the voyage with the Princess Premier package. You are able to pick one dish from each course of the menu. The result is a delicious six course meal. Pictured are the Arancini al Tartufo, Ribolitta, Frito Misto alla Veneziana, Lobster Tortelloni, Ossobuco Milanese, Specialitá deli Chef, and the Sorrento Sunset. The meal came with a complementary glass of sparkling wine and a shot of limoncello.

Aside from standards like karaoke, bingo, and trivia, the cruise direction staff on the Grand Princess will host various game shows throughout the journey. These include: The Liar’s Club (a risqué PG-16 game where you must correctly determine which panelist is lying), a family friendly Princess version of who wants to be a millionaire, and Rock the Room (a fast-paced and energetic interactive game to name that tune). Others games not pictured are Deal or No Deal, Majority Rules (a game where you try to answer PG-16 questions the same as the majority of other guests), and a Discovery Channel sponsored show testing the guests’ survival skills and knowledge.

Yesterday night the Grand Princess crossed the international date line, a unique part of the voyage. The cruise director threw a rewind party in the Piazza to celebrate getting to relive April 11th all over again.

The Grand Princess’ fourth port of call was Suva, Fiji. A day trip from there can take you to the Navua River, where you can ride a long boat upstream to view the gorgeous scenery and multiple different waterfalls. You will even have the chance to go swimming in the pool of one of the larger waterfalls. After the refreshing swim you’ll take the longboat back down river to the Koromakawa Village where you will be welcomed with a traditional Kava ceremony, cultural performances by the men and women of the village, and a homemade Fijian meal.

Alfredo’s Pizzeria and Coffee and Cones are two additional places on the Grand Princess to grab some pizza and wine, or a cup of coffee and an ice cream cone. Alfredo’s does come with a small cover charge, but is well worth it for some amazing pizza. Coffee and cones has specialty coffees and premium ice cream floats for an additional cost as well. Pictured is the Pizza Tarantina and the Lake Como.

Depending on the length of your Princess journey, you will have one or multiple formal nights. The evening began with a champagne reception with the officers and cruise director of the ship followed by a gourmet meal in one of the three main dining rooms. The evening continued with one of many broadway style production shows in the Princess theater. If dressing up is not your thing, then you can always opt for a more casual style and dinner outside of the main dining rooms.

Tauranga, NZ was the Grand Princess’ third port of call. A day trip from here can take you to Rotorua and the beautiful Whakarewarewatangaoteopetauaawāhiao Valley (Whaka for short), which is home to Te Puia thermal reserve and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute. Here you can witness the power of the Pōhutu geyser (the largest in the southern hemisphere), a cultural display from the local Maori tribe, and students learning traditional Maori art forms. After a long day, make sure to stop by the Polynesian Spa near the old historic Rotorua bath house building on the shores of Lake Rotorua. There you can relax and soak in the healing alkaline or acidic thermal pools. Top off the afternoon with some locally grown gold kiwifruit for a refreshing snack. If you’d rather explore Tauranga itself, you can hike up or around Mount Maunganui for some stunning views of the town and beach below, and you will also see some beautiful works of art on the way up.

Our second port of call was Auckland, NZ. Located amongst the hustle and bustle of the city you can explore the Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Auckland Domain Wintergardens and Fernery. You can also get a 360° bird’s eye view of the city from atop the Auckland Sky Tower. Want a thrill? Sign up to jump off the Sky Tower down 53 floors to the streets below while on a safety harness. End the day perusing the markets and luxury stores located on Queen Street near the ferry terminal.

Our first port of call on the Grand Princess was to the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Here you can explore the historic treaty grounds that helped establish the New Zealand of today. You can also travel to explore the unique glow worm cave, have a delicious lunch from the bakery in the sleepy Kawakawa township, and take a gorgeous stroll through the Manginangina Scenic Reserve to see the impressive Kauri trees that have been growing there for centuries.

Care for a dip in the pool? The Grand Princess has four different pool areas, each with their own appeal depending on what you’re looking for. The Horizon Pool is where you can soak up the sun and watch the wake, Neptune’s Reef is where you can come play and even watch a movie on the big screen, the Lotus Spa Pool is for an adults-only relaxation experience, and the Calypso Pool is covered by a glass ceiling allowing for pool time out of the elements.

The piazza is a three-story atrium located in the middle of the Grand Princess. It acts as the central hub to help navigate the main floors of the ship. There you can find dining, bars, shopping, and entertainment throughout your voyage. Entertainment ranges from cultural presentations from the ports of call on the itinerary, to musicians, and multiple celebrations like the Captain’s welcome and champagne waterfall at the beginning of the journey.
