19 anglers: 95 big bonito (limits)
Incredible sign of big offshore bonito. Fun fishing on live bait and artificials.
Continue to bring the bluefin gear because you never know when they’ll pop up.
We need some more reservations for tomorrow’s trip and Sunday is a definite go with a light load so far.

24 anglers: 62 (8-15lb) Bonita
Saw some encouraging sign on our first trip out this week. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.
-Had a handful of fast and furious stops on some trophy Bonita today.
-Hooked and unfortunately lost a handful of nice yellowtail on kelp paddies
-saw some large bluefin tuna through our eyeballs and electronics
If you’re planning on coming out in the near future, these following setups are a great idea to have. In the event that we have a run-in with large tuna you want to make sure you have the proper tackle in hand.
Basic Tackle recommendations:
-assortment of flyline bait setups
25 or 30lb, 40lb test
-sinker rig/heavy lure 150-250gram
60-80lb test
Terminal tackle:
1/0-2/0 j hooks for kelps and small tuna
1/0-4/0 circle hooks for medium-big tuna
4-8oz torpedo sinkers and rubber bands
Colt sniper jigs (60-100 gram) and knife jigs (150-300gram) of various colors.
Definite go through Monday!
24 anglers: 🦨🦨🦨
We saw several nice schools today and even had a handful of bites. But when it was all said and done we have nothing to show for it. Big goose egg today.
Back at it again tomorrow
33 anglers (overnight charter): 2 bluefin tuna
Looked at a bunch of bluefin tuna today and drank a bunch of beer!
Forgot to take a picture, but here’s
a foamer video.
Today was best described as the ultimate float day. Boats in different areas over a span of 40 miles all saying the same thing. “Most fish we’ve seen all year”
But when the fishing day came to an end, all we could do was put a few more gray hairs on my head. We never were able to land any of our bites.
We know they’re here and one day they’ll pay. Big time!
Back out again tomorrow with a light load.
27 anglers: 4 bluefin tuna
Once again some incredible sign of fish around today. But getting a bite was still a challenge.
Plenty of opportunity on 50-100+ pound fish today. We were stopping and going pretty much all day long. Hopefully we’ll get some more opportunity tomorrow.
We are very light on reservations this weekend and need a few more to make tomorrow a definite go. Please call Fishermans landing at 619-221-8500 or book your reservation at www.fishermanslanding.com.
37 anglers: Emotional Damage
Mama said there would be days like this.
We stopped on multiple nice schools of mixed grade bluefin tuna today.
Most reacted and seemed like they wanted to bite, but after stopping and going all day we eventually ran out of time and accumulated zero bites and zero fish.
This just goes to show that the fish will always be in control and humble us when they feel necessary.
Tomorrow is a new day and we will give it everything we have to get our payback.
New Full day trip online!
Tomorrow’s Offshore trip needs a few more reservations to go.
There’s been opportunity for some beautiful grade bluefin tuna on the full day boats.
Please make your reservations at Fishermanslanding.com or by calling the office at (619) 221-8500 to help get the boat off the dock.
Some very important tackle recommendations:
Your 80-100lb setup should consist of the following:
At minimum you should have a Talica 20 size reel full of 80-100lb spectra.
Some good rod choices are Calstar 770H or Seeker 1x3 or seeker 2x4.
Your line choice is 20 to 30feet of 80 to 100 pound monofilament to a short piece of 80 to 100 pound fluorocarbon.
OR
20-25 feet of 80-100lb flourocarbon.
3/0-5/0 owner super mutu circle hooks and 8-12oz sinkers
Lots of persistence and the mentality that you’re fishing for the bite of a lifetime. Stick with your big tackle and resist the urge to drop to lighter line.
If you don’t have one of these big setups, that shouldn’t keep you from going out fishing. Fisherman’s Landing has quality rental tackle for all of your needs.
Tomorrow’s (Monday) full day trip is a definite go!
Light load and beautiful weather in the forecast and we’re going fishing.
Please bring the following:
-25-30lb test for yellowtail and smaller tuna
And
-60-100lb test for sinker rig and large knife jig
You can make your reservations at Fishermanslanding.com or by calling the office at (619) 221-8500
38 anglers: 2 bluefin tuna
Stopped and go’d on multiple schools like the one in the video, only to have our emotions played with by the most heart-rending fish we try to catch.
We’ll get our licks in another day!
No shortage of fish today for both tuna and yellowtail. We spent the entire day stopping and going on good schools of yellowtail, bluefin and yellowfin unfortunately the light switch was just turned off. 40 passengers 14 yellowtail, 1 bluefin and 1 yellowfin.
39 anglers (private charter): 7 bluefin tuna and 1 yellowfin tuna
Stopped and go’d on several schools like the one in our photo. We never had a crazy, everyone’s got one on type of stop. In fact it was difficult to get bites for us.
A wise angler would have a 30lb bait rod with a #2 or #1 circle hook for when the fish are finicky.
Another rod with 40-50lb test to flyline, when they start biting fast and furious.
And a 60lb rod to fish a heavy lure or sinker rigged bait.
