We raced in the first Hot Rum Race of 2023 last weekend and came in 58th/ 120 overall 11th/18 in Class 4 and second classic boat. Not bad for a 96 year old.

Sally took first in class for the 2023 McNish Regatta and first overall in the California Classic Yacht Regatta. Thank you Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club for an excellent weekend of hospitality and racing. We can’t wait for next year!

Sally took line honors last weekend in the Los Angeles Yacht Club Ray Wallace Memorial Race. Steve Jost took some wonderful photos of us racing that day with our spinnaker up.

The crew is currently enroute to the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club & Marina for the 46th McNish Classic. Wish us luck for tomorrow!

Sally had a clean sweep of the Yesteryear Regatta. First in Class, First Across the Line, First International Rule Boat, and Fastest Elapsed Time. It was a wonderful day of racing in San Diego!

Happy 96th Birthday to me! 96 years ago today I slid out of the factory in Germany with my 13 sisters. I'm going to celebrate by racing this weekend!

Today marks 50 days until the 32nd Annual Wooden Boat Festival hosted by the Koehler Kraft Boatyard. Our first featured boat is the Atkins V***n: DANCING BEAR. She is a 1972 44' plank on frame boat. Virginia Cedar on sawn and laminated oak frames. Greenheart backbone, Honduran mahogany and fir marine plywood topside. Fasteners and keelbolts silicon bronze. Auxiliary power is a Norwegian 2GZ Sabb diesel, 22 HP with a variable pitch propellor. A former NASA engineer and master boatbuilder Richard Carr built Dancing Bear for his personal boat.

From 2010 to 2013 my skipper hauled me out of the water and did a complete rebuild from the keel up using his proven epoxy encapsulation method on my planking. In March 2012 I celebrated my whiskey plank ceremony with my skipper, his son, and their family and friends. It was a big step in my rebirth process.

We are just under a week away from my 96th Birthday so this week I am going to share some images from my history. Today is an image of me racing in the 138th San Diego Yacht Club Opening Day Race. I've sailed in over 30 of the SDYC Opening Day Races, probably more than any other yacht on the with the exception of the PC's. Blast from the past. Here I am in the mid 1980’s still in my Sally green livery. I had just arrived back in town from a few years up north and was about to start the longest single owner relationship in my life.
