We can always count on our long range boats to mix it up with multiple species. Thanks to for tagging us and for the fish report! ***We are coming home from the Alan Tani 10 day trip with a nice haul of fish. We had excellent fishing on yellowfin tuna up to 80lbs and good variety fishing at Alijos rocks. Yellowtail fishing wasnt wide open but we managed to catch some with a standout 45lber. We also had pretty good opportunities on wahoo fishing before we had to head towards home. All in all we had a great time with a great group of people.

When yellowfin feel like having a snack, they don’t just take a nibble like bluefin. They’ll damn near eat the paint off the side of the boat. docked this AM with 131 of these nicer grade yellowfin!

Went on a 1.5 day on the Horizon out of H&M landing this last Friday thinking we were gonna do some night jigging for bluefin but I had a pleasant surprise in store for me…. End up going down into Mexican waters for some yellowfin in the 30-80lb. Range but mostly above 50lbs.!!! Almost 2 hours fighting the big boy mostly cause my drag kept loosing on my torium but this fish bit the wrong guys bait!

Here’s Joyce with her first BFT and crewman Craig on the gaff, he’s been making 40 # fish look like trout since 1982.
We had a slow plunk all day long that went into the night on fish from 20-40 #, we finished up with 33.
We only have a few weeks left of trips and there is space available on many of them. Check the schedule and get in on the fall bite.

Yellowtail on the iron. There’s nothing quite like it 🔥

Definite go tomorrow with a very light load, we will be targeting yellowtail at the Coronado Islands! These are large yellowtail, so please check out the tackle recommendations below to make sure you are prepared!

We would recommend a 30lb flyline rod, a 40-50lb yo-yo rod and a jig stick. Remember to have fresh line on your reels and a pocket full of 1/0- 2/0 circle and j hooks. 6 oz torpedo sinkers and several yo-yo jigs like Salas 6x jr or equivalent. We also recommend having some circle hooks and fluorocarbon with the Bluefin around as well.

Full day Coronado Islands trips will be departing seven days a week. Departures are at 5:30 AM, check-in begins at 4:45 AM. Passports are required.
