At two square miles, Procida is the tiniest island in the Campanian Archipelago and possibly the most picturesque, with pastel-hued fishing villages and small ports. M E X I C O C I T Y // Each week, RTT will be highlighting a destination. It only makes sense to highlight CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico) after our wonderful visit.

Airport: MEX (4 hours from SFO; 5 hours from JFK)

Notable facts:
1. Mexico was named after Mexico City.
2. Mexico City is most populous metropolis in North America at 21.8 million. 
3. Mexico City is in the mountains, sitting at over 7300 feet above sea level.
4. The Aztecs built the original city in the middle of a lake so it looked like Venice and Amsterdam at one point. The Spanish drained the lake to control flooding and expanded the city into new land.
5. Mexico City is currently sinking into the lake bed’s clay by as much as 20 inches per year as the city extracts water from the underground aquifer.
