Good luck runners on Bay to Breakers tomorrow!

It happened long ago on January 1, 1912 when the Bay to Breakers was first held. It was intended as a precursor to the world-class athletic events being planned for the 1915 Pan Pacific International Exposition. The photo shows runners on their way up the Hayes Street Hill.

The word "iconic" gets way overused these days, but I can safely say the rotating former Equinox restaurant and bar atop downtown SF's Hyatt Regency is an iconic piece of the city's hospitality history, and the hotel is bringing it back.
