We’ve been on the hunt for a North Beach tour partner that offers delicious veggie-friendly options, and our “research” at did not disappoint! Here’s a taste of what we sampled:

🍕 Calabrese pizza made with imported caputo flour from Naples and D.O.P-certified San Marzano tomatoes
🧀 Creamy imported burrata straight from Italy
🌿 Seasonal asparagus with Raspadura cheese
🍆 Meatless eggplant “meatballs”
🥦 Roasted cauliflower with capers, garlic, and Calabrian chili oil

Fun fact: “Il Casaro” translates to “the cheesemaker” in Italian 🐄 But after trying an array of their menu items, we’d call them the cheese masters!

Ozzie approves of ’s March Supper Club 🐶 Each month, the Slanted Door team offers a rotating multi-course tasting menu featuring signature dishes, seasonal specials, and members-only surprises. Start-to-eat time usually takes just 20-30 minutes. This is a great way to continue supporting Charles Phan’s legacy and experience his family-style Vietnamese cooking at home.

This month, we got Poached Wild Gulf Shrimp Salmon 🦐, Mixed Mushroom Banh Nam 🍄‍🟫, Lemongrass Beef Stew 🍲, Vietnamese Coffee Tiramisu Cake ☕🍰, beloved baked bread 🥖, and a special gift—tinned sardines in tomato sauce 🐟🍅. After fleeing Vietnam in 1975, Charles and his family survived on tinned fish and rice. It became a comforting memory of survival and togetherness that was heartwarming to receive (and eat).

In January, we lost one of SF’s most beloved restaurateurs, Charles Phan. I knew him to be a wonderful person; kind, generous, determined, and humble. Pictured is an homage to Charles where we ate cellophane noodles with Dungeness crab and celebrated his life.

Our deepest condolences to Charles’s family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.
