It’s Shark Week on CNN and Discovery Channel!
It started on July 7 and ends soon.

However, it was sad to see this “food item” for sale on Stockton St. on my tour yesterday.
The going price was $10 for the whole shark.

It made all of us sad to see, as leopard sharks grow slowly, mature late, and because they don’t reproduce plentifully, catching too many leopard sharks can cause their populations to rapidly decline.

At the end of our tours, we often direct guests to try the restaurants on the 600 block of Jackson St., between Grant Ave. and Kearny St. Here is a listing of these restaurants created by the Chinatown Merchants Association, aptly named
"Restaurant Row."

By the late 1800’s, Chinese Americans were already involved in civil and constitutional protections of Americans in the courts. Read on to learn about a few of these landmark cases and how these files are being saved to preserve these historical documents led by David Lei, a San Francisco Chinatown activist, and Anna Eng, a historian and lecturer at UC Berkeley.

Preserving the forgotten or little-known U.S. history is the goal of a volunteer project to scan and digitize the archives of Chinese organizations.

On my tour last week was Aaron Ho and his mother Josephine.
Who is he, you might ask? Try sitcom writer for such shows as Cougar Town, Austin and Ally, and Fresh Off the Boat. When his TV project about Chinatown gets produced, I will holler again for you to watch it!

I can show you where to get live frogs on my tour, incase you cannot find them in your local grocery:

When the Gold Rush hit California in the mid-19th century, miners swarmed over its hills like humanoid locusts, shearing the land of its vegetation in search of fortune. The newly rich, once established in San Francisco, were equally as ravenous when it came to food, and the opportunity to feed a po...

My mother had a travel agency in Chinatown for 60 years, called Jeanette's Travel Service. A couple that purchased tickets to Nevada from our family business conceived their daughter on this trip and named their newborn Jeanette in honor of this wonderful life treasure.
Posing with me in this photo is Jeanette, who brought her family on my tour yesterday.
Posing with me is my mother Jeanette, along with lots of firecrackers and money to ring in the Lunar New Year in 1959.

It’s now a food market, and you can still see the stage, the upper level dining tables, and even the chandeliers and disco ball are still there.
However, a proposal is coming to turn the building into a 15-story affordable housing tower along with a dim sum restaurant and banquet hall on the ground and second floors.

Portsmouth Square Park in Chinatown is slated for a revamp, which will include a new public art design that may remove current monuments and install new monuments that would recognize Chinatown and Chinese immigrants’ role in civil rights history. Work will start late this year and is projected to be finished in two years. The park will be closed while the work is done.

People walk through Portsmouth Square in 2021. The city park in Chinatown is about to undergo a $60 million renovation, which will begin late this year and last 24 months. The park will be closed while the work is done.
