In January, Trib3, a boutique fitness chain, struck a deal to enter The Sandbox, one of the internet’s budding, decentralized metaverses.
They plan to offer group fitness classes in this virtual space, and seeing as this Omicron variant has us missing our usual social connection, we’re here for it.
The metaverse may even offer increased benefits over typical app-based exercise classes, as the presence of other avatars performing well can positively influence behavior. Studies conducted at in 2012, showed that participants who believed that a “virtual partner” was a person in another lab performing 40% better than them exercised an average of nine minutes longer than they would have alone.
Only time will tell if these virtual group fitness experiences will outlast the pandemic as more maskless group classes make a comeback, but in the meantime, we’ll catch you in the metaverse.
