Yay for Ranger Cynthia!

If you’ve entered the park from Joshua Tree in the last 27 years, you’ll probably recognize this park ranger!

Allow us to introduce Ranger Cynthia, a dedicated park ranger in Fees at Joshua Tree National Park. Ranger Cynthia, originally from Pennsylvania, moved out here to be close to family. However, she fell in love with the desert and being a park ranger. Her passion for serving visitors and the park service has kept her at the park for over 27 years!

When asked what she enjoys about being a park ranger, her face lights up as she mentions how she loves welcoming visitors and helping them have the best experience in the park. Although Ranger Cynthia is looking forward to retiring next year, she plans to continue sharing her love and experience with the park even after leaving the booth!👏

Today is World Ranger Day, an internationally recognized day to celebrate the work rangers do to protect the planet’s natural treasures and cultural heritage. We want to express our gratitude to all park rangers who work to protect and preserve parks worldwide.
If you see a park ranger today, wish them a "Happy World Ranger Day"!🫶

Death Valley National Park and the Death Valley Natural History Association are pleased to offer Scotty's Castle Flood Recovery Tours for Winter 2023/2024!

While many roads remain closed after Hurricane Hilary, visitors will have the opportunity to drive through a closed area and see Scotty's Castle with the guidance of a Death Valley Ranger! Tour participants will have a chance to hear the colorful stories of Death Valley Scotty and his Castle, learn about the 2015 flood that devasted the area, and get updates on continuing flood recovery efforts.

Walking tours are scheduled for most Sundays at 9 am, starting December 10, 2023, through March 10, 2024. Tickets are $35 per person, plus a processing fee. Space is limited to 20 participants per tour and must be purchased at least 48 hours in advance. Ticket sales are used to help with preservation work at Scotty's Castle.

For tour details and ticket sales, please visit https://dvnha.org/program-events/scottys-castle-flood-recovery-walking-tours/

No touchy, no feedy.

Before you comment, “If not friend, then why friend shape?” this message is for you. Well, actually, it’s for everyone.

The temptation to feed wildlife is real. Death Valley National Park has recently had reports of food-conditioned coyotes in campgrounds and picnic areas looking for human food. Food-conditioned coyotes will approach and beg visitors for food and repeat this behavior until they get a snacky- snack, especially snacks that aren’t found naturally in Death Valley.

We don’t know who’d want to share their food in a place called “Death” Valley, but if you do find yourself tempted, there are ways you can help reduce coyote habituation to humans:

❌Do not feed any wildlife.
✔️Store your food in your vehicle or secure cooler.
✔️Make sure pets are on a 6-foot leash.
✔️Keep your trash sealed & pack it out.
✔️Act BIG and LOUD or make noise with objects if threatened or approached.

If you see a “dog” without a leash approaching various campsites and/or visitors, chances are that it is a coyote looking for a free handout. We know what you’re thinking…DON’T DO IT.

Crater Lake inspires awe. Fed by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the United States and one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in the world.

There is no better time to witness Crater Lake National Park’s beauty than in the winter. With an average of more than 500 inches of snow a year, Crater Lake offers terrific opportunities for winter recreation.
