A Secret to Mindshare...

The time invested in networking should be used wisely. Don't falsely assume that just because you meet or see people at an event they will remember you because you will be continually disappointed.

"Networking should only take place to facilitate a process—a process that will identify specific individuals with whom I can build a relationship system that will produce predictable results and create a mutual commitment to help one another." (p. 50)

Imagine yourself as that revered producer who gets a consistent flow of referrals to the right clients who appreciate the work you do for them. Your hard work earns you an outstanding income; you are valued by your firm and are highly respected in the marketplace.

A Secret to Mindshare...

Not letting "out there" create negative feelings or a poor self image is important in our quest for achieving our goals. It is important to focus on what we can control and not worry about the naysayers or circumstances that will try and bring us down.

"If I start seeing myself negatively or putting myself down, I need to make a conscious decision to stop it immediately. Through practice, I can train myself to make this response my natural reaction. Don’t let circumstances dictate my emotions. Stay in control of my feelings and choose how I will feel." (p. 168)

Others can only help you if they understand what the clients look like who can benefit from your services. If you are trying to be a "catch all” generalist who cannot offer specifics about market and market segments you have little chance of someone thinking of you if the opportunity presents itself.

The key to connecting with others is having a clear understanding of your social style and how to interact with other social styles. "Chemistry" is an important element in any relationship. None of us are ever going to refer anyone unless we feel good about that individual.

To be successful in today’s highly competitive marketplace requires your brand to be in either the first or second position in the mind of a referrer. If you are third or fourth you have little chance. The power of your brand determines your mindshare position.
