I'm a recent transplant. There's a saying I'm discovering as the days turn to weeks to months and years: "The rainy days are my favorite." Moving here from the second rainiest city in America ( ), this didn't exactly resonate with me at first....
But... as I've come to learn more and more about life in my chosen home, the better that I'm starting to understand this expression. The rainy days are often the most beautiful ones here in .
Sure, the months and months of sunny, warm, breezy days are absolutely dreamy. Yes, I'm bragging - coastal California is very close to paradise. But... it has it's raw edges. It's definitely not "ideal." You can fly to Hawaii and experience weather perfection, I suppose.
But it often takes going out on those raw days to experience the most picturesque ambience here. Maybe I'm thinking too highly of my photography skills, but this feels like an image you could see in a news story or NatGeo even. Sure, I'm being ridiculous, but I'm proud of my work.
This view is beautiful 365 days a year, I'm quite sure: I've seen it in all sorts of weather conditions over the past three years. But it's when the weather has that biting edge that it takes on the kind of mood that Northern California is most widely known - and loved - for.
This is such a perfect analogy of life. If you could have dreamy weather 24/7/365, sure.... who wouldn't love that? But you need those raw, rainy afternoons to really experience the truest beauty of life. For without the humidity and rain, we wouldn't have the clouds and the colors of a stunning sunset.
The cherry on top of it all? The image file number is 707 ... the area code for SoCo.
