🌞Just a turtle trying to shell out some good vibes!🐢

🐢Scientific Name: The yellow-bellied slider is scientifically known as Trachemys scripta scripta.

🟡Distinctive Markings: These turtles are easily recognized by the yellow stripes on their legs and a distinctive yellow patch on the side of their heads. They also have a yellow plastron (the underside of their shell) with dark spots.

🌿Habitat: Yellow-bellied sliders are commonly found in the southeastern United States, particularly in slow-moving rivers, swamps, ponds, and lakes with abundant vegetation.

🐟🌿Diet: They are omnivores. Juveniles tend to be more carnivorous, eating insects, small fish, and tadpoles, while adults are more herbivorous, feeding on aquatic plants.

🐢Lifespan: In the wild, they can live up to 30 years, but with proper care in captivity, they may live even longer.

🌞Basking Behavior: These turtles love to bask in the sun and are often seen on logs, rocks, or floating vegetation. Basking helps them regulate their body temperature and absorb UVB rays, which are essential for their health. It also helps keep their shells hard.

🥚Reproduction: Female yellow-bellied sliders lay eggs on land, usually in sandy or soft soil. They can lay several clutches of eggs per year, with each clutch containing up to 30 eggs.

❄️Hibernation: In colder climates, yellow-bellied sliders hibernate during the winter. They do this by burrowing into the mud at the bottom of their aquatic habitat.

🐢Adaptability: These turtles are highly adaptable and can thrive in various environments, which has contributed to their popularity as pets and their presence in non-native areas due to releases by pet owners.

⚠️Conservation Status: Yellow-bellied sliders are not currently considered endangered or threatened, and they are quite common in their native range. However, they can become invasive in non-native regions where they compete with local species.

🌞Meet the Great White Egret: proof that even birds can pull off the ‘tall, pale, and majestic’ look better than we ever could.🪽

🪶Appearance: The Great White Egret is a large bird with all-white plumage. It has a long, slender neck and a sharp, yellow bill. During the breeding season, the bill may turn a more orange color, and the bird develops long, lacy plumes on its back.

📏Size: It stands about 1 meter (3.3 feet) tall, with a wingspan ranging from 1.3 to 1.7 meters (4.3 to 5.6 feet). It typically weighs between 700 to 1,500 grams (1.5 to 3.3 pounds).

🗺️Distribution: The Great White Egret has a wide range and is found across many parts of the world, including North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. They are often migratory, moving to warmer regions during the winter months.

🌴Habitat: This species prefers wetlands, including marshes, swamps, rivers, lakes, and coastal lagoons. They can be found in both freshwater and saltwater environments, often favoring areas with abundant vegetation for cover and nesting.

🐟Diet: The Great White Egret primarily feeds on fish, but it also consumes amphibians, reptiles, small mammals, and invertebrates. It hunts by standing still or slowly wading in shallow water, striking quickly with its bill to capture prey.

🪹🌿Breeding: Great White Egrets breed in colonies, often alongside other wading birds. Their nests are built from sticks and are usually located in trees or shrubs near water. The female typically lays 3-4 pale blue or green eggs, which both parents incubate for about 23-26 days.

🪶Behavior: These birds are solitary hunters but can be seen in groups during breeding season or when roosting. They are known for their slow, deliberate movements and graceful flight.

🪽Lifespan: In the wild, Great White Egrets can live up to 15 years, though many do not reach this age due to predation and environmental hazards.

⚠️Conservation Status: The Great White Egret is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List. Historically, they were heavily hunted for their plumes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which led to significant population declines.

Texas wild-rice is an endangered plant that can only be found in one spot in Texas. The leaves can grow over 6 feet long and need steadily flowing water that's always about 72 degrees, which is why it only grows near the spring-fed source of the San Marcos River.
