The reason I started this business was plain and simple: I LOVE TO FISH! I would take friends and family out on a regular basis and we always caught fish. One day I took a good buddy out crappie fishing and then paddle fishing a few weeks later and both times he could not believe how successful we were. We crappie fished in terrible conditions, one of them being the wind, but we were still able to take a mess of big crappie home. I then turned around and took him paddle fishing where he landed an absolute monster that was well over a 100lbs. He said it was one of the greatest fishing experiences of his life, and that meant a lot to me. It was then when he informed me that I was crazy if I did not start my own guide service. I also came to the realization that I did not even care if I was the one behind the reel. I took great pleasure in the ability to utilize my electronics and put others on great fish. These are the reasons I started this new business.
So, within the state of Oklahoma there are all of different species of fish ranging from big to small. There are many great guides in the business who are able to target many of these species and they catch a lot of fish and provide great times for their customers. What sets me apart from others is the way I use modern day electronics to get up close and personal to these fish. For instance, many paddlefish guides use Dipsy Divers, 1lb weights and troll or drag with 100ft plus of line out. I rely heavily on my ability to use my electronics! I will use minimal amount of line, 1 oz weights and catch these fish vertically.
So whats the difference? 1. I have the ability to locate these fish quickly and use a single pole to hook into a fish and not worry about setting out multiple poles at different depths. Whenever you hook into one of these fish with me, they are not being dragged by the boat, its you and the fish. 2. Your not dealing with a 1lb weight at the end of the line. The fish will have the ability to fight from the moment you hook it all the way to the boat. Many people I have took fishing have compared that initial hook up as hooking onto a car and trying to stop it. Your not relying on a rod holder or the boat to absorb the initial hook up. 3. In order to get your hooks at the right depth while trolling it requires not only the Dipsy Divers or a 1lb weight, but it also requires you to have much more line out. In order to overcome the speed of the boat and the depths needed to catch the fish you have to have several feet of line out. This is important because it greatly effects the fight. By being closer to the fish it gives you much more of an opportunity to really appreciate the power of this fish. Rather than just dragging the fish to the boat your actually fighting it. This allows the fish to put up the best possible fight.
