On today's "History With Mom" segment, we went to a few locations 😎😂

✨️1st stop: United Sound Systems Recording Studios 🎶🎙

United Sound Systems Recording Studios was the first independent recording studio in Detroit, having dozens of artist record there such as Aretha Franklin, Jackie Wilson, George Clinton, Alberta Adams, Marvin Gaye and John Lee Ho**er.
Here, the first single for Tamala Record (Berry Gordy's first record label before Motown) was recorded by Marv Johnson titled "Come to Me."

If Motown was too full to take anymore artists for the day, most artists would go to United to record.

The fate of this historic studio is in the air as of right now, as it could face being demolished due to the expansion of the I-94 highway.

✨️2nd stop: "The Motown Mansion" 🎶🎤🎶

Berry Gordy's former mansion was the place where The Jackson 5 auditioned in the pool house, and captured Berry's heart. Martha Reeves, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye just to a few faces who came to the mansion whether it was leisure or performing. Berry lived in this house from 1967-1969, but owned it until 2001.

✨️3rd stop: Marvin Gaye's former home 🎶🎤🎶

From 1963-1967 Berry Gordy owned this home. In 1967, Berry purchased the "Motown Mansion", so he gifted this house to his sister Anna and her husband at the time, none other than Mr. Marvin Gaye.

Here at this home, the album "What's Going On," was born. For the album's photoshoot, it was shot right here, at this house, in the backyard. The firepit pictured in one of the picture from the album, is still in the backyard today and we got to see it 🥰🥰

Marvin lived here for 7 years before relocating to California. Him and Anna divorced in 1977.

I love these history trips the boys and I go on 💙

The home of Wilfred and Ruth Little but in 1952, when he was released from a Massachusetts prison, it also became the home of Wilfried's brother Malcolm Little, who became later known as Malcolm X, until 1953.

Malcolm Little's transformation to becoming Malcom X started in this home. His brother was a member of one of the Nation of Islam's temples.

He was living in this house when he met Elijah Muhammad, and this home was also where the FBI began to surveil Malcolm until his assassination in 1965.

After a long fight, it is now apart of the National Register of Historical Places as of 2 years ago.

As of now the home is being renovated, but the goal is to turn the home into a museum showcasing Malcolm's life history and relationship to Inkster while living there.

We also went and paid our respects to Jackie Wilson aka Mr. Excitement.

Jackie had developed an alcohol addiction at the age of 9/10. Jackie wanted to be a boxer as a teenager but due to his parents wishes, he stopped boxing and resorted to singing in Detroit clubs.

Jackie was in a gang in his early teenage years, he dropped out of school after 8th grade, was in and out of the juvenile center, had his first child and was also married to his child's mother at age 17. They had 4 kids together and divorced after 14 years.

Berry Gordy knew Jackie from the boxing world. Berry co-wrote Jackie's hit singles "To Be Loved", "That's Why (I Love You So)", and "Loney Teardrops" while he was under the record label Brunswick. Berry would later start his own record label after this called Motown.

(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher was another popular song by Jackie 🎙🎶🎵

September 1975 while singing "Lonely Tear Drops", Jackie suffered a massive heart attack while performing. At first, alot of people thought this was apart of the act, but after some time of him laying there, concern set in.

Once help was given, it was too late. Due to the lack of oxygen to the brain, brain damage was done and he was in a coma for 3 months. He remained in a semi coma state for the rest of his life.

8 years later, Jackie passed away due to complications from pneumonia.

Elvis paid for his medical expenses; they were good friends.

Michael Jackson paid for his funeral; Michael was inspired by Jackie and looked up to him.

His estate didn't have money for a headstone, so for the longest his grave was unmarked besides a board with scribbles of his name on it. A DJ from Florida took up a donation for him to have a proper headstone, which came 3 years after his death.

He is buried next to his mother Eliza.

Another Henry Ford Museum trip for the boys and I 💙 We absolutely love this museum! So much history in one place! We got to revisit some of the things we saw last time plus see some things we missed 🥰

✨️Thomas Edison's signature in cement.
✨️Rosa Park's bus and we sat in her seat.
✨️The chair Abe Lincoln was shot in.
✨️Furniture belonging to Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, George Washington's mother and Edgar Allan Poe.
✨️The Dymaxion House..."A new way of living in 1946."

We paid our respects to Paul Williams Sr, ⅕ of the group The Temptations.

Paul was the group's original choreographer and the lead singer starting out. Once David Ruffin joined the group, Paul was pushed out of the lead singer position and replaced with David being lead singer. Motown developed their own in-house choreographer, Charlie Adkins, so Paul wasn't needed to be the group's choreographer anymore.

Paul developed an alcohol addiction after being depressed because of not feeling needed in the group, and also he also battled sickle cell.

A spot on his liver was discovered in 1971. The doctor told him he should leave the group but Paul refused.

Unfortunately his voice and drinking got worse and he could barely keep up with the group performing so he eventually had no choice but to leave.

He was still paid ⅕ of the group royalties and also on payroll as an choreographer and an advisor for the next 2 years , although he had difficulties performing.

In early 1973 Paul tried to have a solo career outside the group, but in August of the same year, he would be found dead.

Although his death was ruled a su***de, there's some suspicions surrounding his death.

After an argument with his girlfriend, Paul was found dead in Detroit, at the corner of 14th St and W Grand Blvd in an alley.

Although Paul was left handed, the gun was found in his right hand but he was shot on the left side of his head.

He was found in nothing but underwear.

There was a shattered bottle next to the left side his body, insinuating he may have been caught off guard or startled.

The gun had been fired twice, but there was only one bullet found and that was in Paul. No residue was found on or around Paul concerning the missing bullet.

Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin said Paul had been very depressed and expressed su***de to them in the month previous to being found dead.

Paul Williams was only 34 years old.

Day 3 Last Day 🥹🥹

Bun B's Trill Burgers were 🔥🔥

Melt in your mouth burgers, fries hot, fresh and very crispy. Didn't even need ketchup because of the trill sauce on the burger 🔥😍

Then off to the airport where my flight was delayed a couple of times 😩✈️ so while I waited, I enjoyed a Summer Flame 🍹

I really had a blast with my sis and can't wait to return! 🇨🇱

Where I had the frozen cocktail sampler which included: Liquid Ma*****na, Mangonada Margarita and Casa Azul 🍹🍹🍹

Main course: Surf and Turf Taco with queso on the side 🥩🍤🧀 and it was 🔥🔥

For dessert Mexican Banana Pudding 🍌 and Deep Fried Oreos 🍪

Then we took our tipsy butts downtown and acted like kids 😂😂

First Day in Houston!

Lunch at THE WAFFLE BUS where I splurged with the Mac Daddy Chicken Sandwich, which has a white cheddar mac and cheese on top and thunder sauce on the bottom, and a waffle bun 🧇🐔

Then a couple blocks away, we walked to The Menil Collection which is a museum that houses paintings, sculptures, artifacts and more 🖼🎨🖌🗿 we got to see a couple of paintings from the late Andy Warhol 🖌🎨 we spent 2 hours admiring everything 😍

My broke bestfriends and I went on another adventure to The Henry Ford Museum!

We got to see alot of history! It was amazing!

Here are a few highlights for us:

✨️The car JFK was assassinated in 🚘

✨️A camp bed that was used by George Washington during the war 🛏

✨️The Declaration of Independence 📜

✨️Slavery bull whip, shackles and neck collar 🥹😢

✨️The chair Abe Lincoln was in when he was assassinated at The Ford Theater 🎥

✨️Segregated water fountains and waiting rooms 🚰🚱

✨️Rosa Parks' bus 🚌 being able to sit in the same seat as Rosa was priceless!

Fun fact: Rosa's bus was retired in 1970 and was bought and was used as a tool shed/chicken coop for a farmer. The company employees had told the farmer this was the bus, but the farmer had no documents to prove it. The way it was proved to be the bus is because of a log that the bus station manager kept was found, with the bus number was written as well as newpaper articles about what transpired that day. This was the bus, #2857.

After 3 1/2 hours at the museum we stopped at our favorite cemetery, Woodlawn Cemetery, to pay our repects to the Ford Family and Rosa Parks! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Few stops before heading back home 🤓🤓

We checked out the former filming location of Family Matters (exterior shot). The originally house was demolished in 2017, but the new building is keeping it's memory alive by having a memorable brick with the name Family Matters on it 🫶🫶 if you notice the tree is still there, as well as the house to the right 😁😄

Next we stopped by Washington Memory Garden Cemetery to pay our repects to the late, great, King of Comedy, Bernic Mac 👑

Quick stop in Gary, Indiana to visit the King of Pop 👑(Michael Jackson's) childhood home for the 2nd time 🕺🏽🕺🏽

Right behind the Jackson's home is Roosevelt High School which is where Jermaine and Jackie went to high school, but also where the Jackson's won a talent show in 1966 singing the Temptations hit song, My Girl 🎙

He mentioned this place last year for his bday but he decided on Vegas instead, so I figured what a great gift to give for Father's Day 🫶
