Trends occur with fly fishing just as with fashion, home décor and music. What’s popular one year becomes unpopular the next, then makes a comeback years later. And this cycle continues again and again. I remember in the 1990’s when indicator fishing was all the rage and I was told by countless...

River Improvements! Nutrient Enrichment. An open comment / request for a healthier fishery.

OK folks, I've never come on here before and asked for a favor but here goes. This is our once in a decades chance to have some REAL lasting impacts on the future health of our river.

We have a pretty good fishery here but it could be significantly improved. Libby dam is a huge nutrient suck and for decades now those nutrients have been settling out to the bottom of the reservoir behind the dam before they have a chance to make it down stream.

In the simplest terms what is being proposed is to put those nutrients back into the water below the dam. IE...BIGGER AND MORE FISH! More bugs, more biomass, builds a healthier river and environment. Many of us here have been advocating for this literally for decades.

Nutrient enrichment or re-introduction is proven technology and has been implemented elsewhere with very good positive results.

This is not only good for the fishery and river health but a win win for all. Sure...we all want bigger fish to catch but ALL of our local businesses and environment benefit from a healthier river. Outfitters, guides, hotels, restaurants, grocery and gas. Local folks taking their grandkids fishing. Even the ospreys and eagles will be happy! Everybody wins! (Did I mention bigger and more fish?)

So here's a local news article.

And here's the direct link to comment.

https://publiccomments.bpa.gov/OpenCommentListing.aspx

There's only a short comment window. PLEASE ...pretty please...take a moment and comment. Even if it's just a couple of sentences advocating for this. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

And here's a fish pic. :)
