Now and Then
🪖 Sanford was one of twenty-five NC towns and cities to receive a Works Progress Administration- constructed armory during the 1930's. The building was intended primarily as the headquarters of Battery E. 113th F.A., but it also served as a community center and recreation facility.⛹️

🏀🏐Today The Bob E. Hales Center is operated by Lee County Parks and Recreation. It is available for rent when it is not being used for community basketball and volleyball practices and games.

An Undiscovered Slice of Heaven

If you find yourself traveling through the heart of our state, you’ll come across one of the most charming, vibrant and delightfully unexpected places in North Carolina. At its core is a thriving small city where nearly a century and a half ago only two railroads crossed.

It’s a place where progressive leaders have fought hard to shape a community with a vision for the future while honoring its past. A place where you can escape drama and enjoy a peaceful weekend drive.

There’s a conviction that the arts are food for the soul and should occasionally be paired with a nice red wine or pale ale.

If you want to push yourself hard, or not at all — we have what you’re looking for. With recreation opportunities in abundance, from golf and mountain biking, to baseball and kayaking.
