On June 16 Morocco celebrates Eid Al-Adha, literally the celebration of Sacrifice, is a highly revered and celebrated holiday in Muslim countries. It honors the prophet Abraham’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son for Allah. This special occasion is marked by the slaughtering of a ram, symbolizing Abraham’s sacrifice, and the distribution of its meat to family, friends, and those in need. Like any other Eid, Moroccans dress up for the occasion and visit family and friends. However, this year, the soaring prices of sheep in the market have made it difficult for many Moroccans, particularly the poor, to afford this traditional practice. The cost of a ram is between $300 and $2000! Despite these challenges, the spirit of Eid Al-Adha remains strong, serving as a reminder of the importance of sacrifice, generosity, and unity in the Moroccan community.

Happy Amazigh New Year!🇲🇦
Amazigh New Year 2974 holds immense significance in the lives of Moroccans, as it marks a historic milestone in the recognition and celebration of Amazigh culture and heritage. For the first time in history, Morocco officially acknowledged this event as a national holiday, symbolizing the government’s acknowledgement and appreciation of the rich Amazigh history that has shaped the populations of North Africa, known for their distinct language, art, music, and customs. This recognition not only validates their cultural identity but also promotes unity and inclusiveness, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among Moroccans of Amazigh descent. It is a moment of celebration and reflection, a time to honor and preserve the Amazigh traditions for future generations, strengthening the country’s cultural diversity and identity.

Moroccans have always welcomed and often embraced the traditions and celebrations of other cultures.
They built temples for Phoenician and Roman gods and goddesses. They welcomed the Jewish fate and celebrated Hebrew holidays. Moroccans also practiced Christianity in the first centuries of our Era.
Although the majority of Moroccans are Muslim nowadays, Christmas is acknowledged and respected.
Whether you are exploring the bustling streets of Marrakech or attending a Christmas service in Casablanca or Rabat, the holiday season in Morocco is a magical time that brings people together, regardless of their religious and cultural background.
