So EVEN with The City Council unanimously voting for human powered pedicabs on the bike path and EVEN THOUGH they know we are working with city council to change this stupid law and EVEN THOUGH they know it doesn't happen over night, they still refuse to practice any kind of leniency while issuing citations or threats. How are we ment to pay my rent or the citation they give us if i can't sell rides where the business is?

WE DID IT!! With all of your wonderful support and help we were able to convince the city how important Human Powered Pedicabs are to the beach bike path! It was a LONG night and we were the last item on the agenda but we stuck it out so we could tell the city council how we felt on the issue. They were very open minded and after listening to all our stories, seeing our pictures and YOUR petitions the Santa Monica City Council unanimously voted "YES" on moving forward on agenda item 13.B!(one member was not there so they didn't vote)

This is by no means the end but a move in the right direction. The council will be looking at how to amend the code and make human powered pedicabs operational on the beach bike path so there is more legislative work to be done. However, this may help in slowing the ticketing of LICENSED/PERMITTED pedicab operators in Santa Monica and help keep the bike path safe from the unlicensed motorized speedsters that blemish out hard earned good name and reputation on the beach.

We would like to also give a heartfelt and sincere thank you to The Santa Monica City Council and ESPECIALLY COUNCIL MEMBERS LANA NEGRETE and PHIL BROCK for their continued support with Pedicabs in Santa Monica! We could not have been successful without your help.

We would also like to thank Santa Monica Close-up for all his hard work in helping bring this issue to light and starting the conversation. You are AWESOME!

Okay everyone! TODAY IS THE DAY! WE HAVE OUR CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT 530PM IN SANTA MONICA CITY HALL! If you would like to come and support us we would love for you to show up! If you can't show up but still want to help us just post a coment here and we will read them at the meeting! Make sure you have signed the petition we have and email it to city hall. Petition To Allow Human Powered Pedicabs on The Santa Monica Beach Bike Path

I support having HUMAN POWERED PEDICABS operating on the Santa Monica Beach Bike Path. We offer a safe, non-motorized, and essential service for The City of Santa Monica's locals and international tourists alike. They are also providing disabled, handicapped, and elderly visitors access to this iconic, globally recognized one of a kind destination; one they otherwise would not be able to experience. They help mothers and fathers enjoy the beach with children of all ages, senior relatives here for a visit or teenagers on crutches healing a broken bone without fear of separation or injury from passing bike or pedestrian traffic. They help Santa Monica in meeting its goal to become more “sustainable” and "use the power of community to enhance our resources, prevent harm to the natural environment and human health, and benefit the social and economic well-being of the community for the sake of current and future generations"*.

This is an Effective, Safe, Fun and Carbon Neutral option to help solve the problem of transporting the millions of guests, both local and visiting, that come to this city to enjoy a day in the sun just like they've seen in their favorite movies and TV shows. Let's move forward with allowing HUMAN POWERED PEDICABS on the Santa Monica Beach Bike Path.

Last weekend Awesome Pedicab worked an event opening the newly constructed bridge over the LA River in Frogtown, Los Angeles! This big orange bridge starts from the LA River Bike Path and can be used by both cyclists and pedestrians. Grab your bikes and ride, walk, jog, run or leap your way down to Frogtown and check out this fantastic new addition to and already wonderful bike path! You won't regret it because while you're there you can stop and grab a bike to eat or enjoy some coffee at the many cafes/bars and restaurants along the LA River. Thanks Frogtown Art Walk for having us out for this event. Can't wait for the next one!

Here we are again getting harassed by the City of Santa Monica while on the beach. In the words of the pedicabber on the scene, -

"No one got a ticket. I was stretching next to my bike when they pulled up. They asked for my ID and told me I couldn't be there (stationary on Santa Monica Ocean Front Walk). I said OK, and I asked them to show me the code that states that. They only found one that stated "promenade" (3rd Street Promenade in Downtown Santa Monica) and after 25 unsuccessful minutes of looking for something better, they let me go."

So here it is guys. These officers don't even know what law they are trying to enforce! Not to mention if we were to work up in the streets of Santa Monica, the only place we could possibly sell a ride to pedestrians, the 3rd Street Promenade, is also not open to us! Where does Santa Monica expect us, a fully licensed, insured and city permitted company, to work? This is what our fight with the city is all about. In the last year inflation in Los Angeles has gone up by 7.4% and all we are doing as a small business is trying to pay rent and survive. But these kinds of discriminatory laws and policing are suffocating us.

This is a world renowned tourist destination, and to chase us away from all potential rides while also charging us to do business in the city is hypocritical, immoral and unjust. Please help us keep PEOPLE POWERED PEDICABS ON THE BEACH.

So after all the drama of dealing with the City of Santa Monica and all their crazy unfair laws it's always nice to get a customer who appreciates us and doesn't want the ride to end! First and foremost I'd like to point out that WE ARE PEOPLE POWERED! WE DO NOT USE MOTORS ON OUR CABS! We are aware there are electric pedicabs on the beach but they are not part of Awesome Pedicab.

Secondly, we have had this problem with the City of Santa Monica from day one. They love to make us jump through all the hoops and pay for all the business licenses and inspections then they want us to do our business up on the street in traffic away from all the BUSINESS in Santa Monica! How are we meant to sell rides up on the streets of Santa Monica with cars and trucks speeding past us the whole time while also slowing down traffic while going up hill with a fare? Many times we have had anxious distracted and uninformed drivers honking and screaming at us even when we are in the bicycle priority lanes while all the business and foot traffic is on the beach. We have fought them every time we have gotten tickets, and before 2020 we had made a lot of progress with the Parks & Recreation Dept and had plans to work with the city in establishing pedicabs on the beach, but since the pandemic hit everything went out the window and we are at square one again.

Not to worry! We have done this before and we are doing it again. We will fight the city, as we have (Awesome Pedicab is the only company on the beach that has been doing this with the city, while other cab companies operate without licenses or tags and with motors). this is how Santa Monica seems to operate, but we will continue to fight them on it because we know their laws go against the laws of the Coastal Commission and the Handicap Accessibility Laws that have been constantly overlooked by the city.

Thank you for your support, and if you would like to help us we can always use a letter to the city on how our services have helped you and are vital to the Santa Monica beachgoing experience.

Lastly, thank you for your hard work of recording what is happening on the beach. You were also out on the morning of July 13th 2021 when we got our cabs inspected by the City of Santa Monica.

We Absolutely Love work with cities all over Southern California to help make streets safer for bicycles! The event is happening today from 2pm to 6pm so come by and bring you bikes!
