The documentary The Voice of the Hudson by Emmy-award winning cinematographer John Barnhardt will be shown for the first time in the Adirondacks at The Tannery Pond Center in North Creek, New York at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 1. The 50-minute movie about the 2023 Hudson River Source to Sea Expedition follows the journey of eight 16- and 17-year-old young men who over the course of 2 weeks hiked, paddled, and biked 370 miles from New York State's highest summit—Mt Marcy—to New York City, and along the way conducted a study of the Hudson River’s water quality. Two of the eight student explorers were Adirondackers, including Cole Sears of North Creek, who will be in attendance to reflect on his experience. The film highlights the group’s challenges during their north-to-south odyssey while bearing witness to the seekers’ citizen science efforts and humanity’s continuing challenge to keep our waterways clear of pollution. Come see how the young men featured here followed in the footsteps of explorers throughout the ages and shared the aura of adventure and scientific discovery that has driven intrepid pathfinders across time. Admission is free. Donations are welcome here. The participating organizations are Adirondack Hamlets to Huts, Mountain Goat Movement, Evergreen Business Analytics, and Barnfly Productions. The film will also be shown at the Mark Twain Library / New Pond Farm Education Center, Redding CT on November 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Additional showings are being planned for Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and Keene Valley.
