Merry Christmas to everyone. This video shows us at our Christmas Eve service and family fun time afterwards. The "saran ball" game is a favorite because it is filled with candy and cash.

Wednesday Oct 9, 2024 We left Sarasota Monday morning intending to drive 500 miles that day. Due to storm related evacuation orders we had lots of traffic congestion. It took us 12 hours that 1st day to reach our hotel room (via our car). I cannot drive the motorhome such long hours. Day 2 and today were uneventful. We are safe here in Iowa with family. Thank you for your prayers!

Fr Sept 27, 2024 UPDATE

-- Due to Don's afib and racing heart issues we had to remain at our home base in Sarasota through the summer. On August 20 Dr Espinosa at Sarasota Memorial Hospital performed a heart ablation procedure for Don. He has since recovered much of his strength and resumed ballroom dancing with Cathy. Next week he will have a follow-up exam and if that goes well perhaps we can do some travel. Thank you for your prayers for us.
-- Hurricane Helene gave us some excitement last night. We had powerful wind gusts that tore limbs off the large oak tree next to our unit. Midway through the storm a limb crashed on our roof hard enough to cause a ceiling light's glass dome to come off and shatter on our floor. Our area did not have storm surge flooding. The eye of the storm passed us by. You can see that limb in the attached photo. :-)

Some of our friends and family in Iowa may be wondering where we've been. Our annual migration is on-hold until cardiologists find the best way to help Don with an afib heart problem. A heart monitor and lab tests are in the works. Prayers are appreciated. Thank you!

2023 Fall Migration Day 16
Friday October 13. We drove about 76 miles south on I-75 and arrived safely in Sarasota Lakes RV Resort before noon. We have a comfortable park model home here to stay in thru the winter months (or year around if necessary). Our thanks to all of you who prayed for our safe travel.

2023 Fall Migration Day 14
Wednesday October 11 we drove 118 miles from Tallahassee to Chiefland, Florida on I-10 and Hwy 19. We are camped at Strawberry Fields. The cost of a full hook-up site for one night after the Good Sam Club discount is $45. I took Cathy to Bar-B-Q Bill's for dinner. We are now about 196 miles from Sarasota which, Lord willing, we will drive on Thursday and Friday.

2023 Fall Migration Day 13
We drove 98 miles on hwy 231 and I-10 to reach Tallahassee RV Park today. $57 for 1 night here after Good Sam discount. It is a pretty campground with tall pine trees towering over us. It is well groomed with the keepers literally raking the pea gravel around each site. 314 miles remaining to reach Sarasota. :-)

2023 Fall Migration Day 12
Monday October 9 we drove from Troy 74 miles on highway 231 to Cottonwood, Alabama (8 miles south of Dothan). Cost for 1 night with full hook-up utilities after our Passport America discount was $27.50, a very good deal. I believe this campground is less than 10 years old and is in very good shape. The RV pads are concrete and roads all asphalt. Tonight it has about a half dozen camper units, ie: almost empty. On weekends they get a bigger crowd. We have always been able to get an overnight site here when passing through. This evening I took Cathy to "The Juicy Seafood" restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed it. We're now 411 miles from Sarasota.

2023 Fall Migration Day 10 Thursday October 10
We drove 94 miles on I-65 and passed through Birmingham on our way to Minooka Park 6 miles south of Calera Alabama. It is a really nice county park with paved roads, security gate, many trails, concrete camping pads and full hook-ups surrounded with woods and a lake. It has a smooth and level 1 mile trail around the lake which is perfect for us. :-)

2023 Fall Migration: Day 9 Wednesday October 4th
we drove 86 miles on I-65 crossed the Alabama border and stopped at the Cullman Campground. It feels like country surrounded by woods, ducks, pond, goats, tractors and antique farm implements.

2023 Fall Migration Day 6
Saturday September 30 we drove 76 miles to Fern Lake CG in Paducah Kentucky, a total of 565 miles from Cedar Rapids Iowa. We are about 1/3 of the way to Sarasota Florida, which is our destination. El Torito Mexican Grill is just across the road from us. We enjoyed eating there, good food and service at a reasonable price.

2023 Fall Migration Day 5
Thursday September 28
We drove 125 miles from our previous campground to Gun Creek Campground near Whittington. We stayed in site 69 (electric only) shaded all day by large pine trees. It has significant side slope that we alleviated with 2" rough cut oak planks. Judging by damaged soy bean fields adjacent to the archery range there's a lot of deer in the area. There's a nice golf course here also.

2023 Fall Migration Day 4
Wednesday September 27: We drove 77 miles from Jacksonville to Litchfield Illinois on I-72 and I-55 for a total of 364 miles from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where we spent most of the summer. We are now camped at Kamper Kompanion RV Park. Things that I like about this campground are: it is very close to the I-55 on/off interstate ramps, it has fantastic cell phone service, it is always tidy and has a heavy layer of good rock everywhere (no dirt), the utility hook-ups never give us a problem, all the sites are level. We arrived at our campsite about 1:00 today allowing me ample time to play 4-way chess online with some good friends back in Cedar Rapids. We use the "chess.com" website to do so.

2023 Fall Migration Travel Day 3, Tuesday September 26:
We drove 100 miles south and east on hwy 61 and I-72 from Canton Missouri to Jacksonville, Illinois. We are camped at the Buena Vista Farms which has their office in a repurposed grain bin. This is far enough out of town to feel like we're in the country but still a short drive to restaurants ("Little Mexico" is a favorite) and Walmart. The main attractions here for me are two ponds, a hiking trail, and the quiet! The pull-thru campsites are full hook-up and close to being level. We are now 286 miles into our journey.

2023 Fall Migration Day2
Monday September 25 we drove 60 miles south on route 27 to the Canton Missouri City Campground located on the banks of the Mississippi River. Typically we see barges going through the Lock and Dam system here but so far this evening there have been none.
