Amazing train from Denali to Whittier today! Beautiful views and even the food on board was good. We learned so much about Alaska and the people who choose to call this remote area home. 1 in 52 residents have planes, you can get a pilot’s license at 14 even though you can’t get a driver’s license until 16. Moose love crab apples and one particular one who was named Buzz Winkle for his love of fermented apples and stumpling around town after a few too many….so much more interesting information.

Started our morning at the Husky Homestead to learn about the Ididarod, meet Jeff King 4 Time Winner, Amanda female Ididarod competitor and hold the pups. They are so sweet and the adult dogs are impressive. We learned a lot and spent the rest of the day touring Denali National Park. More photos to come! We are learning a lot about Alaska! Did you know that the Anchorage earthquake of 1964 could have have had many more fatalities but thankfully it occurred on Good Friday so schools and businesses were closed. Only 9 fatalities they had estimated if it happened on a non holiday there would have been 8,000 fatalities. We have had two very informative tours in Anchorage and we are now headed to Mckinley today. Our group is enjoying time together and amazing fresh seafood! Thank you to our trusted housesitter Janice for taking care of our home and dogs while we are away.

In Spain, a short climb is required to the ramparts of the military fortress of Bateria de Castillitos to admire the spectacular view overlooking the bay of Cartagena and the peaks of the Sierra de la Muela. Built in the 1930s to resemble a medieval fortress, the site has rock turrets and enormous cannons. You’ll be seduced by the historical side and sublimated by the view!
