We now have Tropical Storm Ida in the Caribbean. It is expected to strengthen into a borderline major hurricane as it tracks toward central or eastern Louisiana over the next 3 days. We expect little to no direct impacts from Ida in Houston. This post talks a bit more about why confidence has increased so much and where in Louisiana is of most concern. Good morning. The tropical system in the Caribbean Sea continues to show better signs of organization this morning, and will likely become a depression or Tropical Storm Ida later today or tonight. We continue to watch this system closely, and over the the last 12 to 24 hours most major models have trended east with their forecast. The most likely possibility now is that a strong hurricane comes ashore somewhere in Louisiana on Sunday or Sunday night. But we definitely cannot rule out impacts to Texas. Good morning, Houston. Light winds overnight are not helping with La Porte chemical release, but they should pick up a little later today. Our region will continue to see healthy rain chances this week through around Wednesday, after which high pressure should bring them back into the 20 to 30 percent range. Highs will be generally in the low- to mid-90s. It now appears likely that our region will not be affected by Tropical Depression Grace.

Good morning. Thursday was one of the nicest August days Houston can realistically experience without much rain (yesterday's high temps shown here). As we go through today and this weekend, temperatures will heat up, humidity will increase, the sun will come back a bit more frequently, and rain chances that have been mainly south & west of the city will slowly migrate back to the typical sea breeze driven stuff we usually see in summer.
