Check out the AMAZING food we had on Amawaterway! Every single meal was an event.
Breakfast: An expansive buffet, a la carte menu selections, fresh juices, smoothies and mimosas were available in the dining room every morning as well as a smaller casual breakfast in the lounge.
Lunch: A different four course meal served each day in the dining room with dishes inspired by the ports visited. We usually had 2-3 options for each course. Alternately a casual lunch could be ordered up in the lounge or on deck. Both served with unlimited house beer, wine and soft drinks.
Dinner: Similar to lunch but more extravagant. The menu each day featured a five course meal with several choices and accompanied by a curated wine and beer selection each night. All of the dishes featured local flavors and all beer and wine were from the regions we sailed through.
In addition to the main dining room, each guest was invited to the onboard specialty Chef's Table once per sailing for a fine dining experience far superior to anything I've ever seen onboard a ship.
Snacks: Tapas and light snacks can often be found in the lounge during the day. A proper English Tea is served late afternoon and night owls can enjoy Late Night Snacks at 10:30pm. A self service coffee bar is also available in the lounge 24hrs for all sorts of "fancy coffee" drinks.
Do not be fooled by the small portions; no one left hungry. Guests can request larger portions or order multiple items. The restaurant staff was extremely accommodating to guests with special diets or requests. Looking for something not on the menu? No problem, if they can make it happen, they will.
The best part is that ALL of this in included in your fare. There are no cover fees or up charges for any of it, including room service. The beer and wine served with meals is very generous and they happily top up your glass as you leave the dining room. Each evening prior to dinner, the ship hosts a complimentary "Sip & Sail" hour in the lounge. All guests can enjoy unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks as well as a large selection of cocktails and liquor from the bar. Unlike ocean ships, guests of river cruises can bring locally purchased alcohol on board in port.....not that you would need to...we found there was more than enough.
