Halfway through building our home, we decided to build a garage apartment that would double as an Airbnb when we weren't using it.
It took a little longer than expected to come together, but we are so happy with how it turned out.

So...true story. We were living outside of Chicago in a great suburb.
I've always wanted to have a vacation rental...but wanted to do it in a way that makes it a top-notch experience.
Right in Feb of 2020, we bought land.
Then, the world shut down.
We started visiting the town where we bought land and thought...we can work from anywhere, so why don't we make this place home?
Plans changed, but we still wanted to have a vacation rental.
After throwing around some ideas, we ended up building this garage apartment.
We are putting the final touches together now, and it will be ready to rent in about a month.
Can't wait to host our guests over the years to come and show them why we choose to make this place our home.

About 18 months ago, I got an idea for our detached garage. Instead of just building the garage, what would it look like to add an apartment above the space?
We live in a tourist town, so this space can double as an Airbnb and a getaway spot for our friends and family.
Over time, the garage will likely pay for itself I thought...
Well, it's taken twice as long and cost twice as much as I thought it would originally...but it's finally ready for the 2023 busy season!
