Downtown/river street:
We started off our short walk to River Street with a stop to get donuts at RISE. Their slogan is "the best dang biscuits and donuts" and they did not disappoint! We headed down to River Street where we stopped by Black Rifle Coffee Company for Mom's morning coffee. The staff was so incredible and actually let Wyatt grind coffee beans in an 1800s bean grinder which he thought was amazing!
Coffee in hand, we headed right across the street to the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District hotel lobby. Inside we were able to walk around the gorgeous lobby and see a magnificent chrome dipped dinosaur fossil above our heads, and several other fossils and crystals on display. There is no cost to enter, but there are a few shops inside to explore as well. This is a very nice area with priceless artifacts on display, so this would be an area to keep a close eye on the kiddos wandering hands.
We then caught a ride on the Savannah Belles Ferry. This is a free ferry service that stops up and down a few places on the river. The kiddos wanted to ride outside and it was a beautiful day to feel the warm Georgia sun, but there is also inside climate controlled padded seating if your feet need a break. We decided to hop off at The Waving Girl monument and read about her sweet story of becoming an icon for incoming ships to Georgia's shore. We ended our time on River Street with a snack break at the famous, River Street Sweets. Here, we were able to watch the bakers make so many different treats such as pralines, flavored popcorns, and taffy with a sample from each! We even were able to find some specialty dog treats to take home to our best girl!
