Downtown/river street:
We started off our short walk to River Street with a stop to get donuts at RISE. Their slogan is "the best dang biscuits and donuts" and they did not disappoint! We headed down to River Street where we stopped by Black Rifle Coffee Company for Mom's morning coffee. The staff was so incredible and actually let Wyatt grind coffee beans in an 1800s bean grinder which he thought was amazing!
Coffee in hand, we headed right across the street to the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District hotel lobby. Inside we were able to walk around the gorgeous lobby and see a magnificent chrome dipped dinosaur fossil above our heads, and several other fossils and crystals on display. There is no cost to enter, but there are a few shops inside to explore as well. This is a very nice area with priceless artifacts on display, so this would be an area to keep a close eye on the kiddos wandering hands.
We then caught a ride on the Savannah Belles Ferry. This is a free ferry service that stops up and down a few places on the river. The kiddos wanted to ride outside and it was a beautiful day to feel the warm Georgia sun, but there is also inside climate controlled padded seating if your feet need a break. We decided to hop off at The Waving Girl monument and read about her sweet story of becoming an icon for incoming ships to Georgia's shore. We ended our time on River Street with a snack break at the famous, River Street Sweets. Here, we were able to watch the bakers make so many different treats such as pralines, flavored popcorns, and taffy with a sample from each! We even were able to find some specialty dog treats to take home to our best girl!

The Pirate's House:
The kids absolutely loved this historic restaurant! I highly recommend making reservations because the wait can be very extensive during busy times and can be booked out in advance. There is a large free parking area for restaurant guests which is very nice if you decide to drive instead of walk. The Old Pirate's House originally opened in 1753 as an Inn for seafarers and keeps its charm alive today! They had a great kids menu with different options instead of just the typical "burgers/chicken" even though those types of things were still offered just in case! There is a really fun gift shop upstairs with a cute pirate photo op as well.

Wormsloe Historic Site:
About a 20 minute drive from the flat. This historic site boasts the most beautiful live oaks with Spanish moss and amazing Georgia History.

Monday-Sunday 9am-4:45pm.

Admission: paid at the front gate before entering the site
ADULTS $10
SENIORS (62+) $9
YOUTH (6-17) $4.50
CHILDREN (under 6) $2
Group rates are available for ground larger than 15 with advance notice.

In my opinion, the admission was well worth the price seeing as to how we made this a 5 hour long activity! Upon entry, you are greeted by a gorgeous 1.5 mile drive of live oaks coated with draping spanish moss which makes for the most beautiful photos. Once you reach the Visitor's center, you are able to go in and see artifacts and watch a documentary about the site's founder Noble Jones and how he and a group of settlers including James Oglethorpe, settled the property in 1733. You then are able to explore the property at your own pace and see the Tabby Ruins where the original house sat, a gravesite, and portrayal of the colonial life and history of the grounds. There is a large picnic area off to the side as well to pack a relaxing lunch to enjoy with the view. We packed a small cooler with a few drinks and snacks, and this made for the perfect spot.

We chose to stop and eat on the way out at a restaurant almost right across from the entrance called Driftaway Cafe. We sat outside on the large patio and shared a few appetizers including the hot crab dip which is a must!

Fort Pulaski National Monument:
This is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Savannah. Its location is right before you get to Tybee Island so this is a perfect stop on your way out for a beach day!

Admission: paid at the front gate before entering the site
Adults $10
Youth 15 and under are free of charge
If you keep your receipt, you can re-enter for up to 7 consecutive days!

The fort on Cockspur Island fort was built after the war of 1812 for Savannah's protection but was most heavily used in the Civil War. There is an incredible amount of history here with evidence still displayed in the damaged foundational walls. The kids loved this site and exploring what all of the different rooms and nooks/crannies were used for in everyday life as well as the battles. You are even allowed to walk around the top of the fort which shows breathtaking views of Tybee Island. Be careful with the kiddos up top, because it is an open concept with no railing.

Tybee Island Beaches:
parking $3.50 per hour open 8am-8pm
There are several different parking and beach areas on Tybee Island, but we chose the North Island. At this location, there is a huge bathroom facility with showers and dressing areas. There are also a few restaurants at this location as well as a large pier to explore. Adjacent to the parking area, there is the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum which you can pay to explore and walk up along with its historical grounds. Georgia's oldest and tallest Lighthouse!

Lighthouse info:

Children (6-17): $10

Question: Any restaurant recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Apr, 2023

Answer:
If you are looking for a nice, adult, dinner we highly suggest the following:
700 Drayton Street - long walk
Husk Savannah - short walk
Fleeting - a walk down river street and experience the East side of Savannah developments.
*All of the above require a reservation

If you are looking for a little more casual and a 'good time' I suggest the below areas:
Cit Market - nice mix of cuisine, shops and often has live music
JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District - Walk through & experience the stunning displays and renovation details of this revived plant. Exit out the back to the dinning carts / bars along the river another location with multiple cuisines and fabulous bartenders.

There are so many hidden jewels in savannah we are confident you will find something you both love very much.

Extra suggestion: The biscuit place across the street is a 100% must visit for breakfast.
