This is what true legends are made of. Loses a leg in Vietnam, comes home and becomes a Doctor, retires after 40 years of practice, learns to fly fish, passes the FFI Certified Casting Instructor test, and is one of the principal folks behind https://veteransflyfishing.org a great group here in Georgia, helping veterans find some peace through our great sport. Over the past 2 days, I had the opportunity to get Dr. John Mauldin his first ever redfish on fly (or otherwise). Humbled by the life lived. Very proud to have had the opportunity to add a small highlight to it.

Could not be happier than to finish off the week with father-daughter team .kay07 and on the skiff. 16yo Mason put on a clinic from the bow sight fishing a chunky 33” red for a new personal best. She picked up a PB trout and flounder as well. And yes…she let dad catch some too!

Sunday funday with . Had the pleasure to get Will out on his first Georgia saltwater fly fishing trip this morning before his conference started. He had fish of the small, medium and large variety, but the 32” porker of a personal best stole the day!

Had Gregor Martin in from South Africa on business, and wanting to catch his first redfish. Loaded him and his father in the skiff and off we went. Predawn rain, persistent wind and flat gray skies, made it tough. But he kept slinging that new Helios 8 wt at every flash and push, and as soon as we had a tiny break in the clouds…bang! His first red and a well earned grip and grin! Wasn’t the best of days, but for me that smile is worth every bit of the work.

Most of you know I don’t like to post much on here, but firsts and personal bests will always get a nod. Tim from Minnesota with his PB redfish, on an absolute wind fest of a day. The ride home wind against tide was no joke either, but the Evergladez ate it up as usual.

A real pleasure having Steve Fournier, owner of out on the skiff today. A little different than his home waters of Bozeman, but with the new Helios H4 in his hand he got it done sticking this big girl for his first red on fly. Already looking forward to the next visit and happy to be a small part of his Dr. Slick family.

A very nice product with a deep cup, strong brine and a nice meaty texture. Congrats on the first harvest and props to all the restaurants supporting this first blush! Eat local!
