After weeks spent in coastal waters, blue crab larvae float back into the Chesapeake Bay where they develop into immature blue crabs.

Immature blue crabs look just like tiny adults and molt several times before they reach maturity, about 12 to 18 months after hatching. As juveniles, the crabs hide from predators in underwater grasses and feed on aquatic vegetation and debris.

A very special “Thank you” to Peggy Binzel of Pier450 Restaurant, Boutique Motel & Shop for her time today to create this festive Independence Day holiday week floral arrangement which will brighten our dining room this week. These florals were all cut from a specially set aside cutting garden behind the “vine fence” across from the restaurant. Check it out as well as the ornamental floral cultivated meadow on the stunning grounds of Pier 450, a must see during your stay at The Hideaway in Hays Beach all year long!
