Temporary Closure alert for Rio Grande Village area.
Big Bend National Park will conduct a prescribed burn April 6th and 7th along the Rio Grande from the Daniels’s Ranch to the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail. During this time, the Daniel’s Ranch picnic area, Nature Trail, and Rio Grande Village boat launch will be closed.

This fire is planned to reduce stands of non-native river cane, restore willow habitat, and open up the banks of the river for recreational use. The burn will be conducted by park staff, Yellowstone firefighters, and the Los Diablos fire crew.

Our family loved our trip to the newly renovated Rock Harbor Lodge! Owner Kneut Kneutson excitedly told us about the hotel’s recent upgrades managed by his daughter, Bertha Farmer. Their most impressive new feature – flush toilets! We loved playing tennis on the new court and berry picking by the shore. Our favorite part of the trip was the overnight camping excursion on Birch Island. The trip was led by John Linklater, who showed us his fishery on the small island at the mouth of McCargoe Cove. We would love to return soon!

UPDATE 3-25: ROAD IS NOW OPEN.

Boquillas Canyon Road Closure 3/24-3/25
Road crews will close portions of the Boquillas Canyon Road for much needed repairs on Thursday and Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Boquillas Port of Entry will remain open, but there will be no access to the Boquillas Canyon trail, Boquillas Overlook, or Marufo Vega/Strawhouse trails. Please plan accordingly.
