Since the inception of Watch Duty 🔥 I have encouraged all our guests to download it prior to their arrival to our vacation rental home, Sea Ranch Abalone Bay It has been a God-send!

Watch Duty, founded in 2021, when it had about 6,000 North Bay users, now has 16 million active users, more than half of whom have downloaded the app since the start of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.

"On a mid-August afternoon three and a half years ago, a handful of volunteers monitoring emergency radio traffic about a wildfire start in Lake County sent out their first coordinated public safety alert through a startup cellphone app.

"That first message on Watch Duty reached about 6,000 enrolled users in the original three-county territory, including Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino counties."

Watch Duty, founded in 2021, when it had about 6,000 North Bay users, now has 16 million active users, more than half whom have downloaded the app since the start of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.

Important Announcement for All Sonoma County Vacation Rental Guests

As wildfires continue to affect communities throughout California—most recently in Los Angeles County—Sonoma County has introduced new regulations requiring all visitors, including those staying at Sea Ranch Abalone Bay or any other vacation rental in the county, to evacuate as soon as an official evacuation warning is issued.

We know firsthand how critical it is to heed evacuation orders. A few years ago, we had to leave our own Sonoma County home, witnessing fire-scorched hills along the road to Sea Ranch. This experience highlighted the importance of being fully prepared with an emergency Go-Bag at all times.

We strongly recommend that you bring a Go-Bag when visiting Sea Ranch. While we do provide basic shelter-in-place supplies, it is vital that you remain aware of local conditions and be ready to depart immediately if needed.

Why we provide a dog friendly location:

Ollie, a labradoodle, died in 2020 after being mauled at a doggie day care in Massachusetts. The state just enacted “Ollie’s law,” which is designed to protect pets in kennels.

But safety requirements come with costs for kennel owners, and recent efforts in other states to tighten regulations have failed. That leaves most pet owners without guarantees about how facilities handle their pets.

The death of Ollie, a 9-month-old labradoodle mauled at a Massachusetts pet care facility in 2020, led the state this October to enact “Ollie’s Law,” tightening regulations on the care and housing of pets at boarding and training kennels.
