CRUISING TRAINING SKILLS! SHE OF CORTEZ!

We have a 2 week trip in the stunning Sea of Cortez on October, design specifically for learning all the cruising skills you don't learn in regular sailing classes.

This trip allows you to spend as much time as you need to master the skills you need for coastal as well as offshore cruising. If you have already taken those classes and it feels like you don't really have it figured out, or if you are starting from scratch, this trip is for you. There are no tests or workbooks, no homework or gold stars. You are going to operate the dinghy, learn about engine maintenance, anchor skills galore, navigate, take the helm, stand watches, docking, knots you actually use daily, water and electricity conservation, sail trim, motorsailing tricks, galley tips and meal planning, even provisioning if you like. No pressure to learn a certain level of skills, it's up to you and it's all available.

There will be lots of time to explore ashore, snorkle, swim in the clear warm water, dinners ashore in tiny villages as well as small towns, and time to chill and read a book. Of course, you will go home with a boat load fo new sailing seasters from all over! That may be the best part.

These skills are taught by a life long sailor and cruiser, Capt. Holly Scott. I have taught sailing since 7th grade and am told I am a great teacher (blush). I taught for the big companies for a few years and stopped because I became frustrated with their need to overcomplicate everything. If I can teach a 5 year old kid to sail, it can't be too complicated, right?

Website Update!!! New photos and trips just launched.
The good news about being stuck in a gale during a delivery is that we have a minute to update our website!

Coming up in September are 2 weeks sailing in Croatia, 2 weeks cruising skills training trip in Sea Of Cortez in October, our famous Eco Whale Tours next spring and the ever popular 2 weeks in glorious Tahiti in May 2025. No sailing experience necessary, participate as much or as little as you like, no tests, no homework, just lots of laughs in stunning places to explore with friends for life.

***Kids and guys are welcome on some of the whale trips and there may be a coed boat for Tahiti if we get enough interest!!

Last year we offered a cruising skills trip in the Sea of Cortez that we call She of Cortez. We had a big monohull and a big catamaran full of enthusiastic gals excited to learn and practice their cruising skills. We covered navigation, anchoring, dinghy operation, knots, sail trim, reefing, weather, maintenance, provisioning, food prep and storage and lots more.

We are considering doing another one this fall, probably in October, with a possible add on trip to the Copper Canyon after the charter. Nothing in stone yet, we’re looking to see what the interest level is.

The sailing portion would be a 2 week trip, leaving from La Paz and headed north through the islands and along the Baja side of the Sea of Cortez.

For my friends who are concerned about me and this hurricane headed to So Cal, I am fine, sitting in Big Geiger Cove at Catalina watching the forecasts. I will head home either Saturday or early Sunday and sit it out in my slip. Once it’s over, I’ll head back to Catalina.

It’s beautiful here. No signs of anything brewing. I expect to see high wispy clouds tomorrow and a long lazy swell. So far, just another lovely stay in paradise with my worthless crew.

This one is a Cruising Skills training trip, where you will get lots of hands on practice and so much opportunity to perfect your vital cruising skills, including helm time, sail trim, reefing, navigation, VHF operation, dinghy skills, anchoring, docking, knots, galley skills, provisioning, water and electrical management, on and on.... All located in the ever changing spectacular Sea of Cortez. You could spend 2 lifetimes here and never see it all. One of our favorite places to explore.
No tests, no yelling, no pressure. Practice til you get it!

It’s good to be home from Netherlands and in my own bed surrounded by my critters! Also good to be back in shorts and flip flops. A perfect Sunny 78 degrees!

Floors mopped, laundry done, errands finished, my usual walk and even tacos for lunch. Trying to avoid work for the entire day. Riiiight…..

Don’t forget that you can still join us for our epic Netherlands Canal Cruise. We have a shared cabin and a possible private cabin available. This is a very relaxed, low key cruise through small towns in Friesland. It’s a personal favorite destination for me!!! If we see something interesting, we stop. No rushed itinerary on our canal trips!!!

For extra fun, stay a few days after the cruise to see Pride in Amsterdam.

We're working on the last minute stuff for our Belize trip! 59 gals for a week, sailing on 6 catamarans is going to be such a blast! It's our biggest trip of the year, our 8th Annual Women Who Sail Rendezvous. Tons of work but so worth the laughs and smiles. We can't wait to see our friends and meet our new ones!!!
