Squid fishing typically takes place in the Puget Sound during the fall and winter months when squid migrate closer to the shore.
Squid feed mainly at night and are attracted to light, which is why public piers are good locations for anglers. Hungry squid lurk in the dark fringes near patches of lighted water and then dart into the bright area in pursuit of food such as young herring and other small fishes.
Les Davis Pier in Tacoma, WA, with its convenient location along the shoreline, is a favorite spot for locals.
You will need a shellfish/seaweed license to jig these squid! 🦑
It’s a social activity, with friends and families gathering on the pier enjoying the experience together. We had such a blast!
