"My friend and I had a great day with Colin on the Mt Rainier tour. He made great French press coffee and blueberry bread at our first stop for breakfast. We did about 5 different hikes throughout the day, seeing several waterfalls, gorgeous landscapes, and found all kinds of mushrooms. Lunch was amazing…fresh and healthy from a local caterer. Colin saved the best hike for last…it felt like a beautiful fairytale with all kinds of gems and moss in the midst of 600 year old pines and cedar. It was definitely worth the cost and I’d love to do a few more tours in the area."

We are fortunate in the Pacific Northwest to be one of the few places in North America with mild temperatures right now (highs in the upper 70’s this week in Seattle). Part of this is due to Puget Sound, which acts like a giant air conditioner.

The Canada Jay aka “Camp Robber”

It takes getting up high to find this lovely bird - they spend their time year round in subalpine and alpine zones. As a recent British guest described them, they are “very cheeky”. Indeed they get very close to humans hoping to steal some of your lunch! While you don’t want them to succeed at stealing, take the opportunity observe their lighter than air appearance as they flit quietly in and out of your picnic area. This time of year they likely will have recently fledged young doing begging displays to be fed by a parent.

Hurricane Ridge is now open! Join an Evergreen Escapes Tour!

After a fire that destroyed the day lodge at Hurricane Ridge, access to all the incredible hiking and views was cut off to all visitors. On June 27th Olympic National Park reopened the road, but are limiting the TOTAL number of private vehicles for the entire day to 345. Once that number of cars has been admitted, no other cars will be let in, regardless if all 340 leave the park.

While this restricted access will force many to change their plans, there are several options to visit the Ridge, even after the vehicle capacity is reached. Thankfully, the daily restrictions do not apply to tour companies who possess a current commercial use authorization - including Evergreen Escapes! The best way to see the Olympic Peninsula is on a guided tour. We offer day tours from Seattle 6 days a week and can arrange a private tour from anywhere in the region for any day. Our tours fill up fast, so don’t wait until the last minute to book.

Another option if you don’t want a tour is to take a shuttle. Clallam Transit will operate the Hurricane Ridge shuttle regardless of the road closing to private vehicles. And for those in good shape, you can bicycle up too!

And there are so many incredible places to visit in the National Park that even if you don’t make it to the Ridge you will still have an incredible time.

Why Can’t I get to Hurricane Ridge? The Hurricane Ridge area will remain closed while investigators determine the cause and origin of the fire that destroyed Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge on May 7.

"I went to Mt Rainier in May 2023, and it was the highlight of my trip to Seattle, WA! I just so happened to visit during the sunniest weekend, but the guides at Evergreen Escapes made the entire trip fun, educational, and relaxing. They brought drinks and snacks for the road trip and for the hike itself, were conversational and easy-going throughout the trip, and were very considerate of the group's needs overall.

It was my first time booking a hiking tour so I didn't know what all to expect. Thankfully, the guides gave us options for hiking by detailing the level of intensity and what features to expect on the trail. Since it was such a nice day out, we spent about two hours hiking overall, with a break in between one trail to the other. Afterwards, Marty brought us to a nice spot down the mountain to eat some delicious homemade food. Among the eight-person group, only two were pairs and the others (including myself) were solo travelers.

If you're new to Seattle, hiking Mt. rainier, or prefer to let someone else do all the work for planning a day's trip, I'd recommend booking with Evergreen Escapes.

"You can try to see the Olympic National Park without a guide but you won’t come close to seeing all that I got to with Evergreen Escapes and the greatest tour guide Marty. These guides know where to go. We saw waterfalls, rainforest, the biggest trees and he even got us to the beach with plenty of time to enjoy everything. I don't want to spoil anything! The snacks were great (and I'm a snack expert), the group was fun, the van was comfortable, and Marty made the drive seem shorter than it probably was. The park is absolutely amazing and if I ever make it back I'll be hitting this group for sure. If you haven't been to the Olympic National Park you better go. Now I'm starting a journey to see more parks!
