Turkish art of ebrew.
Garip Ay has reinvented the traditional art of water marbling, known as Ebru. While Ebru art is typically reserved for book covers and practiced by at-home hobbyists, Ayβs spectacularly fluid designs defy convention and explanation; they must be seen to be believed.

Our day started with a visit to a fossil factory. The rock comes from quarries nearby and is cut and processed there. We learned about the geology of the region where the fossils ate found and they get marble and gypsum. Lunch was at a Berber restaurant, partly below ground with 2-3 foot thick wall to keep the temperature moderate. We had Berber pizza, made in a community oven, which we also visited. Then it was time to meet up with our 4x4 vehicles and drivers, who took us out of Erfoud to the sand dunes. We had a stop for tea and traditional Berber music on the way. The king of Morocco has been promoting Berber culture and traditions including updating public signs with Arabic, English, and Berber script. Children learn the Berber language in school. We made it to our desert camp then went for a camel ride into the dunes to watch the sunset. The next morning we delayed the desert, passing through the mountains again and the apple growing capital of Morocco on our way to Fez.
Continuing east to Erfoud and the desert, we stopped to visit the rose production capital of Morocco- Kalaat M'gouna. This area is the top growing area of roses for rose water and perfume. We also saw the dramatic Todra Gorge, a place where many go to escape the heat. We confused on to Erfoud for overnight before we went by 4x4s into the desert.
Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, Taourirt Kasbah in Morocco. We left Marrakesh and headed to Ouarzazate, stopping to visit Ait Ban Haddou on the way. We stayed in a riad in Ouarzazate, the visited Taourirt before continuing to the edge of the Sahara Desert.
Here is our morning cooking class in Marrakesh. It was a fun experience learning to make tagine, then having the results of our work for lunch. We also learned about the Moroccan mint tea tradition, and other spices common in Moroccan cooking.
Our tour in Morocco has taken us from Marrakesh, mountains in the area hit hard by the earthquake, Ouarzazate, the edge of the Sahara at Metzouga, Fez, and now we are wrapping up our stay in Chefchaouen. Here are some photos from this morning city, known for its blue walls everywhere.
Here are some more photos from our Morocco tour. We left Marrakesh and headed east to Ouarzazate and Erfoud. Roses and fossils are important industries here. We also drove through the Todra Gorges, amazing! Next stop was the Merzouga Dunes, our luxury camp, and an amazing sunset from atop the dunes. The next day we drove to Fez, which took us back over the Atlas Mountains and to much greener scenery. More to come from Fez!
In the evening, we returned to Jem el Fna for the night market and dinner, which was a sampling of local foods. Our guide Yazid found us a table to sit at and then ordered food from a runner who then went and placed the orders and got the dishes to us. It was a good way to try many different things, kind of like tapas- small serving but lots of them. We finished the night with a delicious fresh fruit juice, and then back to the hotel. Tomorrow we are off the the Ouirika valley and the Southern Atlas village of Ifourir to distribute solar lanterns and toys to people affected by the earthquake last September.
During our first day of sightseeing in Marrakesh, we covered a lot of ground. Kutoubia, the madersa, Bahia Palace and more.
Our Morocco tour is just a few days away! I will be posting pictures here along the way. Stay tuned! Marrakesh is our first stop on the 15-day itinerary.

Here's what a client said about their recent trip to Egypt:
"I enjoyed the trip so much! Yasser was a fantastic guide. My highlights were visiting the pyramids and riding the camels at the pyramids. Also, the temples at Abu Simbel were a highlight.
I appreciated that Yasser got us up early enough to beat the crowds to all of the sights. He pre-purchased tickets which allowed us to walk past the long lines, straight into the sights. We didn't run into crowds in the tombs or temples or at the pyramids or sphinx which made the sightseeing much more enjoyable.
I'm glad that Suzanne asked to only ride on camels and horses that were ethically treated. Yasser walked us past countless camels until we reached the camels he wanted us to ride which looked healthy and beautiful. The same with the horse carts. I really appreciated Yasser taking us to animals that looked healthy.
The Nile cruise ship was very enjoyable. All of the drivers, hotel staff, boat crew and others who we encountered were warm, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
I found Egypt to be a welcoming and safe place to visit. Having a small group with Yasser as our guide made the tip perfect.
Thank you for arranging our trip!
Sally"
