A glimpse of deep-sea life from the Hero Fracture Zone. This squid was captured on lander footage at 4600m, moving effortlessly through the abyss. Filmed with Inkfish as part of ongoing research into the deep ocean ecosystem in Antarctica. @inkfishexpeditions
A rare and unforgettable moment—this curious orca approached our EYOS team on a recent expedition, offering an incredible close-up view. Encounters like these make every journey special.
On a recent expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula aboard Hanse Explorer with NOAA, the team successfully conducted a range of scientific operations across multiple remote sites. Despite challenging weather and rough seas, they completed critical research, including drone surveys of chinstrap penguin populations—the first full count in over 40 years. Equipment and personnel transfers at King George Island and Copacabana Base supported wildlife sampling efforts to monitor avian influenza among local species. Marine data collection also advanced with the retrieval of an underwater glider that had been gathering insights on krill populations in the Bransfield Strait since November.
The expedition included landings at Elephant and Livingston Islands, where scientists conducted surveys and collected geological and ecological data across multiple sites. Aboard Hanse Explorer, the team navigated rapidly changing weather, strategically positioning for shelter and optimizing operational windows. With all research objectives completed and personnel safely returned to their bases, the expedition provided valuable new data to ongoing studies of the region’s ecosystem. @hanseexploreryacht @noaaoceanexploration

Octopus arrived at King George Island, sailing through Nelson Strait surrounded by porpoising penguins and towering icebergs. A dramatic entrance to the start of her Antarctic season! @octopusyachtmy bigblueexp
Overnight, the temperature dropped sharply as we crossed the Antarctic Convergence, entering the biological boundary of Antarctica. This morning, the first iceberg came into view, gleaming in the sunlight, while whales spouted throughout the day. The White Continent lies just ahead. @octopusyachtmy
A rare calm on the legendary Drake Passage as we chart our course toward Antarctica aboard Octopus. Albatross and petrels glide effortlessly alongside, their wings skimming the breeze, while South America fades behind us and the White Continent draws near. The journey south begins. @octopusyachtmy
Octopus is once again heading south for Antarctica! EYOS CEO and Ice Pilot Ben Lyons is onboard as they cross the Drake Passage, and will share some of the experience crossing this infamous waterway. @octopusyachtmy
The Baining Fire dance, performed by the Baining community of Papua New Guinea, embodies the interplay between human expression and natural elements. Traditionally a rite of passage for young men entering adulthood, chorus chants and drumbeats sound while dancers in colorful, elaborate masks daringly run and kick through fire. EYOS’s Melanesian experts provide perspective and insight into this sacred ancient ritual we’re privileged to observe.
Embarking on a journey like no other, EYOS and The World united to explore the wild, dramatic beauty of The Kimberley region of Australia. A place where rugged cliffs meet pristine waters, and ancient landscapes tell stories of time itself. Our expedition brought residents of The World closer to the heart of one of Earth’s most remote destinations, where each day was filled with new discoveries and adventures. @theworldresidences
Our expeditions give us the opportunity of interacting with many unique cultures, like the Dani tribe of West Papua, featured in the video above. The Dani have lived in the lush, fertile Baliem Valley of Indonesia’s central highlands for centuries, honoring their artistic and spiritual traditions passed down through generations.
