Happy February! It’s my ✨ birthday month ✨ (it’s on the 14th! ❤️) and I’ve got some new followers AND I’m doing a so I thought I would introduce myself and tell you all about the moment I knew that I wanted to start a business and become an entrepreneur!

🏥 It was 2013 and I had just got rejected from the two physical therapy doctorate programs I replied to. Instead of feeling sad, dejected, and unwanted, I felt something else… relief.

✝️ If you are interested and also love Jesus, then I could tell you that it was Him who pressed on my heart to serve others through a business instead of inflating my own ego with a doctorate degree. Ouch! But I knew in my heart that God had a greater plan for me!

👶🏻 So I left my job working as a PT aide for a sports medicine clinic, and started nannying for one of my besties as I started developing what was first “The Ink Bird” and then morphed into Songbird Paperie.

After two and a half years I gained enough clients and work to pursue Songbird Paperie full time and I haven’t looked back at what have could be, but instead I was looking forward at the awesome plan that was laid out before me.

So that’s me! I feel pretty vulnerable sharing so much, but today it felt right. 🥰

“Are people still doing paper wedding invitations?”

This past Sunday while I was at at , a newly engaged couple had a question that we stationers hear a lot.

My answer? An enthusiastic “YES!”

If that wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t be in this business! There are so many couples and guests out in the wedding world that love a beautifully designed and crafted physical invitation. Textures, colors, embellishments, and specialty printing methods are better in person!

For all of my custom design couples, with their order include a keepsake wedding invitation house in a linen foil-pressed box so they can cherish their paper invitations for years to come.

✨Pro tip✨ Add an outer envelope so your guests tear through a non-lined envelope instead of the beautiful patterned liner!

When should you inquire with your wedding stationery designer? The answer might surprise you!

✨ 6-9 months before your wedding and up to 12 months before if you’re inquiring with a popular stationery designer!✨

Stationery is an art, and if you are familiar with art at all, you know that art takes time. A few factors that go into planning, designing, and producing your wedding stationery that warrants advanced planning:

🖤 The Calendar: I only take 3 to 4 weddings per month for custom invitation design, so if my calendar fills up, that’s it! Better get on that calendar as soon as you can!

🖤 Custom Artwork: Custom watercolor crests, line drawings of your venue, and spot calligraphy all take time! We can take around 2-3 weeks to sketch, scan, and finalize these beautiful upgrades.

🖤 Specialty Printing: Letterpress, metallic foil press, embossing, and other non-digital printing methods can take around 1 to 2 months in production. There are a lot of elements that go into these printing methods.

These are just three reasons why it’s important to inquire with your stationery designer early on in the wedding process. There are even more reasons! Perhaps a blog post might be coming along. ☺️

I LOVE being in the wedding industry!!!!!! 🥰

It’s the most wonderful and joy-filled industry and here are three reasons why I LOVE being a part of it!

1️⃣ The happy couples!!!
Seeing couples smiling and in absolute LOVE with each other makes everything worth it. Running a small business is difficult, but when you see smiles like these? 💯 worth it.

2️⃣ Fellow vendors!
This industry is SO talented! Not to mention, the fellow vendors in the greater Seattle area are so kind, so welcoming, and is woven into our jobs.

3️⃣ Creative space!
I get to design and create all day every day and it is so life-giving. To exercise this part of my brain is wonderful and I’m so happy to bring others joy through my work.

💡Pro tip: Add a POP of color to your wedding invitations with edge painting!

What is it? My custom printers offer this amazing upgrade that I love to utilize, and it is literally what it says — the edges of your invitation cards are painted! After printing on double thick paper (💡Another pro tip - Go double thick!), the cards are bundled together and tightened down with a clamp. Then ink is applied to the edges, it dries, and voila! painted edges!

For a cohesive look, I like to choose a color that is already in the invitation suite. Here for R+J’s invitation, I chose fuchsia, which was their reply envelope color.

You basically have 2 options for your wedding invitation: online invitation or physical invitation.

I’m here to let you know why physical stationery matters for your wedding!

✨Reason 1️⃣: It sets the tone for your wedding

Paper can be IMPRESSIVE. It’s tangible, you can feel the luxurious textures, slide your finger over the delicate foil, see the handwritten envelope... That’s a sure way to get your guests excited to attend!

✨Reason #2️⃣: Ease your guests’ worries (and yours)

One thing that online invitations can’t do: live on your refrigerator, physical desktop, or on your bulletin board! Everything is on your invitation suite, and that information is way more accessible if it is a physical invitation! We’re for including as much info as possible in your details card, and it’s much easier to find than an email in your cluttered inbox! Save yourself from answering a bunch of emails and texts the weeks leading up to your wedding from confused guests!

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve! What’s on your dinner menu? Tomorrow we are aiming to be very Swiss and having raclette! SO yummy. 😋

Dinner menus hold a special place in my heart. A few years ago my mom showed me a dinner menu card I made as a child - even at a young age, I understood how a menu card could elevate a meal! Also, since then I’ve gotten better at spelling. “Spegeti”, anyone? 😉 🍝

Whether it be a fancy 200-person gala dinner, a 50-person wedding dinner reception, or Christmas Eve dinner with just you and your little family, a menu card can go a long way in making your table special!

Handed over this little “ancient” beauty today!

My client wanted a scroll with ancient looking lettering as a gift for someone special! The paper was pretty toothy and cotton-like so it definitely has that antique look after I did the calligraphy.

Calligraphy is such a versatile art and I love it when I’m able to create a piece that will result in a very happy gift recipient!
