Meet Jess Reynolds, the creator and host of the Bask House.
“I noticed when I started traveling through Europe in my 20’s people would ask me what it was that I did… I would respond with, “Well, I’m an art teacher.” Ingrained in me was the concept that who I was was what I did.
It only took a few of these responses to realize most people outside the U.S. didn’t want to know about my occupation, rather the things I did that shaped WHO I am.
So my answers morphed from what I did for a LIVING to what I did to LIVE.
Now don’t get me wrong, I loved teaching, but who I was was shaped by more than just that. I started to share things about myself that included my love of travel, art, creativity, people, nature, design, architecture, learning, discovering layered stories of others and gratitude.
Over my career I spent a decade as a fashion designer and had a twenty year career teaching art to children. I led dozens of art students all over the world in the quest to gain a bigger picture of ourselves; to learn to be open, vulnerable and most importantly see the possibility in the things we ‘do.’
Full circle, I’m now on the hosting end. What I ‘do’ is more than just ‘host.’ There’s a creative force in bringing a space to life. Not merely beds and chairs, rather an opportunity to create meaningful spaces for others to connect with loved ones, design, purpose, a story I invite YOU to finish…
So, what do you do?”
