I made a deal with the husband many moons ago that when Todd Helton gets inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame that we get to go. Now that he’s officially getting in, it’s go time! ‘Tis the time of year to hem and haw over what will be the perfect gifts for your kids. If you’re anything like us, we’re over the stuff! We talked to the kids last year and said how about instead of lists of things we do a trip somewhere instead? They were on board and we had the greatest time and made the best memories (and honestly probably spent less on the cruise itself than we would’ve on gifts).

All year Mac has asked when we will go back on our “boat” and when I’m taking him to the beach next. He might’ve been too young to remember it, but he might not. I know Mitch, Blake and I won’t forget it though.

Over the past month I’ve gotten the privilege to book trips for a few families that will be their Christmas gifts. Taking a HUGE sigh of relief! I signed up for a few weeks of craziness coaching a club softball team this summer. Just as I was about to checkmark that craziness, it then evolved into taking on an assistant position with a local high school team. And, about six months after this all started, I feel like I'm finally coming up for air! Thank you to all of my travel clients that were patient with me getting quotes and answering questions between practices and games.

I have a couple landing in Cabo today (so jealous of that one), a big group gearing up for a Dominican birthday and a family cruise to the Caribbean. What's next on your travel list? How can I help?

The last few days I've seen so much chatter about Virgin Voyages. There's a reason they're getting the spotlight. One, their ships are beautiful and tailored to what adults want. First off, I have to say thank you to everyone who has supported me right out of the gate! McClary Travel is up and soaring thanks to you all reaching out and passing my name to friends and family.

This beauty is my travel buddy. This is the eBags Mother Lode Junior Travel Backpack. Mine is about five years old and still looks brand new. This beauty held ten days of my life for our Europe trip. Let’s talk solo traveling. I know, those of you that know me are probably wondering what I know about solo traveling? We’ve been married for almost 16 years, but before kids, I navigated a many a trip all on my own. I typically flew in to shoot a wedding at an unknown location and from there I did my own thing. There’s something magical about sitting in an airport by yourself, with a glass of wine, off to do exactly what YOU want. It’s also a pretty liberating feeling to know you can do it on your own.

Now I know some of you are pro solo travelers. You know how to do it responsibly and safely, and you know how amazing it can be. But, I also know there are plenty of you that have partners that don’t like traveling, traveling to your ideal locations, or you have trips on your lists that don’t match up with your friends. There’s also those that might’ve once had that travel partner, but no longer do. So it’s completely new territory, that might even be emotional. Heck, you might just need some serious me time. After all, you can’t pour into others if your cup is empty.

Wherever you fall on that spectrum, know that I would love to be your partner in planning. If you’re unsure if you can do it on your own, know that you can and I’d genuinely like to help you do it!

Do you know what’s a fun message to send? When the traveler you’re working with is already excited about the price you found for their Spring Break trip, and then you get to tell them that you found an additional discount! 💪 Anybody else wishing they had pulled the trigger on Spring Break? Airfare isn’t cheap right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth looking into!

Let’s talk cruising. If you had asked me a year ago what I thought of cruising, I likely would’ve said it wasn’t for me. I’d still be in the same spot if it weren’t for the great deal we found on our Christmas cruise, that I just couldn’t turn down.

It turns out that we needed to find a ship that was a better fit for us, and an itinerary. I learned that sea days aren’t for me. I like seeing lots of ports. We actually didn’t have a single sea day on our most recent cruise. We also found a ship that was suited for keeping kids entertained as well.

I say all of this to say consider cruising. It’s a great way to sample locations and take in a lot of different locations. It’s so fun falling asleep in one place and waking up in another. If you get it for the right price, it’s also hard to beat the nightly cost breakdown just for your meals and a nice place to sleep, with entertainment included!

Photo at Barbados (duh 😝). We cruised Royal Caribbean out of Puerto Rico, with stops at St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, and St. Kitts. It was an amazing chance to enjoy several of the best beaches in the world!

Don't be like me and immediately dismiss needing/wanting a travel agent because you're a fellow deal finder. For years I didn't understand why anyone would want to work with a travel agent with all of the resources that are available for free. But guess what? A travel agent typically doesn't cost you a dime either, and they can get deals that aren't available to the general public. So, for less than you'd pay on your own, or even the same price in some cases, you can let me take care of all of the details and however much planning you want me to do. Not only that, but if you've ever dealt with a cancelled or missed flight, stolen/lost passport, or other travel emergency you likely know how hard it is to get help at an airport or resort. So, you have a lifeline back in non vacation life ready and willing to help.

For years I've been known as the friend who can find killer deals on travel. It's sport for me to pick a destination and find an affordable way to not only see it, but to really enjoy it. It doesn't stop at find the trip though. I love making sure that we won't have a wasted meal at a just okay restaurant, or return home only to find that we missed seeing some of the most amazing spots.
