Where is the most unique place you’ve dined? Mine would be
it is a 10,000 year old cavern serving a mixture of pre Hispanic and international haute cuisine in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. They pay tribute to the legend of the have you seen one? I thought I captured one on camera last fall in the dark at Uxmal, turns out, it was just a guy with a selfie stick🤣

Ek Balam-Black Jaguar
Another underrated archeological site in the Yucatan near the colorful city of Valladolid it is a great stop on the way to Los Colaradas to see the flamingos and pink lagoons.
They are finishing restoration on one of the temples and have uncovered beautiful carvings, when I was there in 2020 they were still working on it but in November we were able to get up close and personal.
It is believed to be from Classic 600-850 / 900 AD) and which was possibly the seat of the kingdom of Tladol. The carvings are on the tomb of Ukit Kan Le´t Tok, who was buried with a rich offering made up of more than 7,000 pieces such as ceramic vessels, shell objects, snail and tumbaga.

The forgotten city of Yaxunah, most people have never even heard of it let alone visited, yet it was once more important than Chichen Itza that is less than 15 minutes away. More than 650 structures and at least 500 years older than Chichen but not restored so it’s not as popular. They’ve discovered a road that led to Coba which is 66 miles away believed to be the longest road built by the Mayans they used the white stone to build it and could navigate it by the moon when it was much cooler out.
Before going be sure to get permission and have a local guide. There is also a museum, a cenote open daily at 10am, a seed bank and other interesting Mayan Culture to be experienced.

Mérida, the vibrant capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, has a rich Mayan and colonial heritage. The city’s focal point is Plaza de la Independencia, bordered by the fortresslike Mérida Cathedral and white limestone Iglesia de la Tercera Orden, both colonial-era churches built using relics from ancient Mayan temples. The Casa de Montejo, a 16th-century mansion, is a landmark of colonial picturesque architecture.

Izamal, the “yellow” city is another beautiful place in the Yucatán, about an hour away from Mérida. Izamal was continuously occupied throughout most of Mesoamerican chronology; in 2000, the city's estimated population was 15,000 people. Cobblestone streets and vibrant yellow buildings.

Uxmal is in the North West of the Yucatán Peninsula, it was once an important Mayan city between the 6th -10th century CE. It was restored and is the best preserved of all Mayan sites. The architecture is amazing and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1996.
Video mapping is all the rage down there right now where they project a story on cultural sites and churches.
I was fortunate to attend 2 of these shows while down there ans Uxmal was my favorite.

There is a great restaurant in town, Micaela Mar y Leña the staff is great, the prices are reasonable and the food is awesome! We took an Uber, then ubered into the Square and wandered around, then ubered back to the hotel. They have shops, carriage rides and video mapping on the church some days.
The restaurant at the hotel is amazing for dinner and drinks as well.
