With the harvest comes Thanksgiving, and the women of Selmer First United Methodist Church are already warming up the oven. Brunch will be served all morning, 9a-1p. Moody Cat Coffee Shop will also be on hand, offering specialty coffees, pastries, stickers, mugs, t-shirts and more. And you can shop for jellies, peanut brittle, cheese, knives, crafts and other goodies at their Old Country Store.

Saturday, November 16, at 1:30 PM CT, Jack Martin will give a demonstration at TFS's Annual Meeting at the Latta Theater in Selmer, TN.

The fourth-generation broom maker is a Folklife Heritage Recipient and 2015 Governor’s Arts Award recipient. Owner of Hockaday Handmade Brooms 🧹, Martin crafts brooms by hand in the way his grandfather taught him, using his great-grandfather’s nearly 100-year-old equipment. The artisan and educator’s brooms have been featured on , , and the DIY Network and his “Living History” program has reached an estimated one million school-aged children over the past twenty-five years.

See you in Selmer on Saturday, November 16, for a special interview—Hattie Marshall-Duncan will be interviewed about her life, career, and creative process by Bill Hickerson, executive director of the West Tennessee Regional Art Center.

A 2019 Governor's Arts Award winner in the Folklife Heritage category, self-taught sculptor Hattie Marshall-Duncan is beloved by the creative community in her hometown of Jackson, Tennessee, and revered by regional folklife and traditional arts advocates.

News from Shiloh National Military Park!

Shiloh, TN – The month of November is full of interesting things to see in our night sky, including the Pleiades open star cluster; the planet Uranus at Opposition; and the forecasted Leonids Meteor Shower. In honor of these events, Shiloh National Military Park will host a Night Sky Party on Saturday, November 16th, starting at 7:00 p.m.

The park is still closed after dark, but the Park Superintendent, Catharine Bragaw has authorized the limited use of the park for those visitors attending this program. The night sky program will be conducted near the Shiloh Indian Mounds Complex, located in Cloud Field.

Everyone is invited to bring telescopes and set up at 7:00 p.m. in the designated area of Cloud Field. If you don’t have equipment but are interested to view the heavens, we will have the park’s night sky equipment out for the enjoyment of all. Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair, warm clothing, and their imagination.

The program will take place in Cloud Field, so there will be a short walk (less than 300 yards) on a paved surface. This program is accessible to all.
