I remember my Uncle and Papaw using this phrase when I was young. You don't really say it as much as you sing-song it. "How-dy-doo-ooo". Then you answer back with "How-dy-do-How-dy-do". It is our family's way of asking "How do you do"

I guess now that you know our family greeting you have officially been deputized into our Walden's Cove Retreat clan. When you see friends or loved ones give them the family greeting from us. We would love to have them apart of our Waldens Cove Retreat clan too.

I'm not an avid golfer but I can daydream about hanging out in a perfectly manicured green oasis soaking up the sun. I like to drive the golf cart. That's as far as I go but I KNOW we have some Walden's Cove Family members that would put in some serious but greens time. The answer is The Gatlinburg Gold Course. Makes it easy and this is SUCH a beautiful place. I'll wave as I drive the golf cart!

I have to admit something horrible. I've never liked baked beans. I think I'd like them and put them on my plate and then never finished them. Okay... say you have a Roomba vacuum. Those are handy little things, right? Say it's on auto-pilot... Annnnddd... let's ALSO say you have a new puppy who is learning to potty train. One day you walk into the living room and you witness the Roomba vacuum smearing a pile of poo all over your floors and your kids with little ears are looking at you with doe-eyes. We all know what we would RATHER say... but dagnabbit could tide you over until you get in the shower and use your children's bathtub crayons to quietly graffiti curse words all over your shower stall. Dagnabbit is quite versital.

We have a small arcade at Walden's Cove Retreat but.. if you REAALLY want to see a serious arcade? You need to check out Gatlinburg Pinball Museum. This place has games I haven't seen since I was in middle school. It's like walking back in time when I was plunking in quarters 10 at a time with my Father saying, "No more. Last one".

Whoo-Honey I love me some cake! Doesn't this just sing smoky mountains with all the fresh berries on top? Lahhhhh!!! Get a slice and sit on the porch and read our Hillybilly Jokes and Trival from our social media page. The cake is not overly sweet. It's a light-handed dessert. I use berries found in and around the smoky mountain area. Things like blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. A little drizzle of Manuka honey on the top. I highly recommend you use Manuka honey. My Mom has gotten a lot of relief from her digestive issues by taking a teaspoon a day. If you can't get Manuka honey I recommend any local honey you have access to is best

I used to think NASCAR was a waste of time to watch. All they did was drive in an oval. However, I got sick when I was staying with my Dad and step-mom's house and they love it. I was a captive audience for 4 days. I came away with an appreciation of the nuance of it and I've been hooked since. OHHH man do I love watching those guys drive in an oval. While I will never drive a NASCAR - (and trust me you're welcome) this is a good time. The picture above is my husband and my youngest on the track and I cannot giggle and love a picture more.

I don't claim to know how to flyfish and catch this good-eatin' trout. However, I'm fascinated by the technique.. I love to watch it. If you suck at it like me that's okay. You will have fun trying. Then you can go to Walmart to the fresh meats counter and get you some already filleted. Hey... No shame baby... no shame... Sometimes you just got to keep it simple folks. The mountains provided a lot of natural medicines. You don't need a fancy degree... you just need to burp. When I was in high school I went to all state choir camp. We stayed in the Hyatt Regency in downtown Louisville Kentucky. If you have been to the hotel you can see it is one big open column of rooms. When you look over the railing you can see down to the lobby. There was a guy that came out on the 10th floor balcony, leaned over and burped so loud the people in the lobby cheered. Ahhh. memories...

This is so fun I can't stand it. The thing I like the most about this distraction is they focus on Appalachian dishes. I mean, come on. The answer is a pair of pants... I grew up in Kentucky. My Mamaw used the word britches all the time. She would say, "I'm going to bust your britches.... then insert what I did wrong here." I guess it's like saying "Bust your ass". Now I'm not saying she was always mad at me. It only happened every 3 to 4 days.. Haha! NAwww... she
She only busted my britches once or twice...that was enough and I'm sure I deserved it.

OMG, I love me some apple butter. But to use it as a filling for a cake? I'd roll in that like cat-nip. I keep staring at the picture thinking how good that would be warmed up with a big mug of coffee, and eat it on our spacious front porch for breakfast. Think about booking Waldens Cove Retreat at the end of the summer when it's apple harvest time! We have openings in September and October!

Where to get the best apple butter? I'm glad you asked! The Apple Barn and Cider Mill seems to be the consensus and I'd agree. They are about 15 min from Waldens Cove Retreat and they have a lot of attractions on the property.

I can't ya'll - I wish I knew who wrote this joke because it's a success in cracking me up. However, you don't need to worry about the weather at Waldens Cove. We are tucked in a corner of Little Valley and we have mountains hugging us on three sides. AND....If you get rained out we have board games, puzzles, cards, and a mini-arcade. We give you access to all your subscriptions on the TVs to watch movies!

This one tripped me up. You would like the answer would be C. The Gatlin Family", even though the area was named after a Gatlin, the Ogle family were the first to settle in the area. I heard tell the Ogle family and the Gatlin Family didn't get along. So it probably put a bee in their bonnet he got the namesake. (more on this story in a later post)

We just got 2 weeks in July open up. I cannot believe the gold mine of vacation dates that dropped into someone's lap. We are open the week of July 14-21st and July 22-27th.
