Fall is here and we want to show our love for our Seward locals with a very special promotional! If you are a local who has been wanting to join us for a trail ride this is for you! One of our most frequently asked question is : “will we see any bears on this ride?”
Short answer is “hopefully not” however we do ride through heavily wooded areas and up river beds full of spawning salmon which is great bear food, that being said we try to be very respectful of our neighbors and they usually give us the same respect and will learn our schedule to try and avoid us as much as possible! But hey it’s Alaska during spawning season in the woods so it’s very important that we are all ready for any sort of wildlife encounter and we do our very best to keep everyone on our rides as safe and feeling as comfortable as possible!

Here’s some photos from earlier this week of our guests enjoying watching the spawning salmon swimming up the rivers and our dog “fishing” for them. We love Alaska and all the wildlife that inhabits these areas, however we also know that it’s very important to be bear aware this time of year!

So to make a long post short, there is always the possibility of running into any sort of wildlife on our trail rides, and especially as fall approaches they will leave behind many traces of their whereabouts, however we will always do our best to keep everyone safe and comfortable while being respectful of the incredible wildlife that inhabits our trail ride area!

A little late 2022’ recap❤️

This year was filled with so many smiles, laughs, tears, rain, sunshine, good days and hard days but none the less we are so thankful for everyone’s continued support of Bardy’s trail rides and are looking forward to the 2023 season. That being said I want to take a minute to reflect on this year and announce some of the changes going into this new year. It is with great sadness to inform everyone officially of the loss of our sweet sweet Sampson boy❤️ he was a true gentle giant and we were lucky to have the years we did with him. (If anyone has any Sampson memories or pictures please send them our way! We love to hear about how our horses have impacted others)
We have also decided to list our business for sale. So if you know anyone in the market for a new business opportunity please contact for more information.

Now going into this next season we will be operating at 3 days a week and have very limited space available so please book sooner rather than later❣️
We are looking forward to another great summer and seriously can not thank everyone enough for the continued support❣️ Happy LATE new year everyone!

Good afternoon Bardy’s followers,

Here to announce and introduce you to our “newest” guide for this upcoming 2022 season. This summer Katie will be running the show Monday’s and Tuesday’s. Katie was born and raised in Seward Alaska and has been working for Bardy’s since she was nine, and began horseback riding lessons at age 7. She is an active member in the local 4-H and FFA programs, competing in English and western riding events, vet science and rabbit showmanship . Katie loves being outdoors and adventureing with her friends and family, when she’s not doing trail rides you can catch her hiking, running, or riding her horse koda. Katie has grown up with the Bardy’s horses and trails and we’re so excited for her to step into her new role as lead guide!

12 summers later and my Bardy’s career has finally come to an end. I can’t even try to put into words what this business, these horses and all our guests have meant to me. I have learned so much from my time here and will take these skills and lessons with me throughout all my next adventures.

I have experienced so much and grown in so many different ways over my time at Bardy’s. My time here has quite literally helped shape me into the young adult I am today, and I was fortunate enough to grow up with these horses and guests. This job has on multiple occasions pushed me to my limits and tested my patience to the very last straw, many tears have been shed and names have been cursed, but I can honestly say if I could go back in time there’s not much I would change. Each experience and thing that happened throughout my time here happened for a reason and taught me something, and I am forever grateful for it.

Yes, this change will be hard, and yes I had a very emotional last day, but it’s time for me to move on and pass this opportunity onto someone else. So THANK YOU to these horses, this business and all our guests for encouraging me, supporting me, and pushing me to be the best version of myself I could be. For humbling me, and constantly reminding me of how lucky I am to live in Seward Alaska. I will forever remember the kind words/ reviews from everyone.

A huge thank you to this amazing group for letting us share their incredible group photo, just one extra thing we do here to help make your experience special and memorable!

We try to stop in the perfect spot in the middle of the ride with mount marathon on one side, mount Alice on the other and the head of the bay out front, meaning no matter what the weather or lighting is doing we can try to get all your best angles! Also our sweet tilly girl loves to pose for photos❤️

Hi your guide Halle here! This is my 11th summer at Bardy’s trail rides, and I have loved almost every second of it. Being a trail guide has been such a fun job full of learning experience on handling horses and humans! I have been riding since I could walk with a few hiccups throughout the years, I trained in dressage for 8 years and did as much showing as I could throughout the winters before I returned back to Seward for my summers, I am currently attending university of Montana western to earn my bachelors degree in biology for pre veterinary medicine, and Bardy’s has been my rock in paying for my education. When I am not at the trail rides and you can find me serving and hosting at the salmon bake! You can also catch tilly and I out hiking in any free time I can find! Down here at Bardy’s we have such an amazing and hard working staff who we appreciate tremendously. Today I would like to introduce everyone to one of our totally, amazing, wonderful, top notch guides Jessica Martinez!
Jess grew up on her family’s farm in South Dakota, she was the classic run of the mill horse crazy girl and spent her summers riding back roads, trail riding with the family, and racing through fields with her siblings. She also participated in 4h horse fair every summer. Her passions include teaching and coaching middle schoolers, running, hiking, fishing, baking and spending time with her husband and dog. Being a teacher allows Jess to spend her summers exploring different jobs that allow her to follow some of her other life’s passions. Not only has she been at Bardy’s for about three summers now but she was also a horse wrangler/ trail guide for two summers in Custer, SD at Rockin R Rides. Can we all take a moment to remember how fortunate we are to be stuck in Alaska during this covid madness? I am not sure about everyone else, but I personally couldn’t think of a more perfect place to be in a time like this. Alaska is the ultimate place to be for social distancing with out going completely stir crazy🤪 a beautiful state full of small family owned local business, all located in small tight knit, hard working communities. It’s easy to get down in the dumps and ultra stressed in such an uncertain time like this, but regardless of a slower tourism season let’s not forget what us Alaskans are made of! This 2020 season will be one for the history books, it’s all about Alaskans helping Alaskans❤️ We here at Bardy’s are proud to say we have continued to support locally and invest in the other small business around us.
