The City of Shasta Lake is not only the gateway to Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake, with seemingly endless recreational opportunities; the City of Shasta Lake lies along State Route 151, a scenic byway and main thoroughfare connecting the city with the entrance to Shasta Dam. With a population of 10,164 (Census 2010), it is a community with a small town atmosphere and personality that makes residents p

roud to call it their home. Along with the residents, each year thousands of visitors come from all over the world to see the "Three Shasta’s", Mount Shasta, Shasta Lake and Shasta Dam. Shasta stands a majestic 14,162 feet and is located about 50 miles north of Shasta Dam. All this just a few miles from the heart of the City of Shasta Lake. The City is relatively young, having incorporated in 1993. Its origin has history as it includes the three boomtowns of Project City, Central Valley, and Summit City that were created during the 1936-1945 construction of the legendary Shasta Dam. In 2013, the City and community celebrated its 75/20 Celebration, marking the 75th year since the construction of Shasta Dam, and 20th year since the incorporation of the City. With incorporation, the city adopted a mission statement that describes the City’s role in building a strong community. The mission statement declares, . . . “It is our mission to work together for community prosperity by promoting community cohesiveness, job development, tourism, commercial and industrial strength, civic cleanliness, security for people and their property, and strong family values.” With these goals in mind the Shasta Gateway Industrial Park was developed by the City to promote opportunities for economic growth within our community. To date this park has brought jobs and economic life to our City. We consider each business, visitor, and resident in our community a partner now, and going into the future.

This week's heat wave kicks off our summer season. To stay safe and help prevent heat stroke, stay hydrated.

Since we’re coming out of winter/spring, you may be in the habit of drinking less water, but your body needs you to drink water like it’s summer.

To keep cool, here is a list of air-conditioned public spaces throughout the county.

MEDIA RELEASE
DUI CHECKPOINT NOTIFICATION

On Friday, May 24th, 2024, starting at 6 pm, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the City of Shasta Lake.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes, DUI arrests, and traffic patterns. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over the counter medications can interfere with your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and ultimately result in a DUI. Additionally, while medicinal and recreational ma*****na use is legal to use and possess in the State of California, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.
As always, if you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Rodeo week is meant to be a fun time for everyone. Just like how the rodeo participants practice every safety precaution when they perform, make sure you do what needs to be done to get to and from your destination. Follow the “Go Safely” Game Plan and hitch a ride with a sober driver if you plan on drinking and look out for your friends so everyone gets home alive.

Before you grab a drink, make sure you have a designated sober driver.

Been drinking and don’t have a ride home? Use a ride-sharing service. Do NOT get behind the wheel.

Don’t let your friends drive impaired.

Shasta County is adopting a new public emergency alert system called AlertShasta. Effective May 1, 2024, the current system, CodeRed, will be discontinued. If you have been using CodeRed and wish to keep receiving emergency alerts please sign up for AlertShasta.

https://alertshasta.genasys.com/portal/en

🚨📢 Shasta County is transitioning to a new public emergency alert system, AlertShasta! Our previous alert system, CodeRed, will no longer be used after today, May 1, 2024. If you have previously signed up with CodeRed and would like to continue to receive alerts, you must register for AlertShasta.

🚨AlertShasta is a significant upgrade and introduces a range of enhanced features to ensure effective communication during both emergency situations.

✏️Sign up for AlertShasta at - alertshasta.genasys.com/portal/en

*Note - AlertShasta is a product of Genasys that works in conjunction with but is not the same system as Genasys Protect, formerly known as Zonehaven, which was implemented last year in Shasta County. For information about genasysProtect, visit protect.genasys.com, enter your address in the search bar, and make note of what zone you are in. In an emergency, first responders can use this system to quickly notify the public of evacuations and more. Know Your Zone and share the information with your friends and loved ones. We recommend signing up for both notification systems.

Now is the perfect time to get your yard maintenance done before the fire season begins. Keeping your property well-maintained is an essential step in preparing for the possibility of wildfires in our community. We encourage all homeowners to take advantage of the cooler weather and get their yard maintenance done as soon as possible. This includes mowing the lawn, trimming bushes and trees, and removing any dead or dry vegetation. By taking care of your yard now, you can help reduce the risk of fires starting on your property or spreading to your neighbor's homes. This is an important step in keeping our community safe during the fire season. So put on some gloves, grab your tools, and get to work! Let's all do our part to keep our community safe and prepared for the upcoming fire season.

Additionally burn season is being extended into the month of May! Be sure to call the number on your burn permit for up to date information as well to see if burning is still permissive!
